Original Title was: Extending FME Desktop floating license to an AWS On demand/Spot Windows instance

Hi,

I have a use-case of making use of FME services on an AWS instance especially with large GIS datasets (for ex: 20 million points) .

For this, my current practice is that after I boot up my AWS instance, I install FME Desktop version and then license it with a trial license code which comes with a validity of 30 days.

The problem I run into is,

With the termination of the AWS On-demand / Spot instance, I lose out on to the trial license, some times, within a day or two. So every time I boot up a new instance it also calls for a fresh license code.

I have tried the following but unsuccessfully.

- Create an AMI (image) of the instance before terminating it.

-Try to connect my FME floating license server with the Windows instance on AWS.

Can a provisioning be done to extend the valid FME floating license to the AWS Windows instance ?

Thanks

Just out of curiousity, have you tried FME Cloud?

I know that Safe Software currently uses AWS for online instructor led training sessions, where the instance comes pre-loaded with the requisite version of FME Desktop, the training dataset and the manuals.

In a similar way it would be nice to have term licenses of FME Desktop on the cloud (AWS)

I think the user is looking at using FME Desktop on the cloud to author workspaces

Running the FME Desktop floating license server on a nano EC2 instance would work.
