This would be the way to mess up your canvas!

I want this back. Granted, the old AutoLayout was flawed. But there are lots of algorithms to organise flowcharts. There's a great program called yEd which can reorder diagrams in lots of different ways.

I used it a lot after loading feature types in reader and writer. Then I got to the featuretype connections window to connect them and autolayout to remove connection crossings. really missing that now

Some times this is very useful and time saver while working medium workbeckes.

I will vote for this if you promise to take all canvas elements in account (bookmarks, annotation etc).

My vote for this. Sometimes auto layout is real cool functionality to have.

Seconding Jeff's comment. Really missing the auto layout feature...I have a once off workspace with 50 output features. What a pain if I needed to manually tidy up the connections from the featuretype filter. It looks really messy.

This has been released as part of FME 2017.0 . Visit http://www.safe.com/downloads to download it and give it a spin.

The auto-layout in FME 2017 is not really working as expected, and has several issues.

1. It moves top labels (reader, data flow, writer) down, below all items.

2. It arranges all items in the work space in the wrong order, not the same order as seen in navigator pane.

3. It moves all items in works pace down and to the right, so, sometimes it is hard to find them.

4. In some large work spaces, it changes the scale, so items become unreadable, until the scale is changed back manually.

I just downloaded the latest version of FME 2018.1.1.2 (20190121 – Build 18586 – WIN32).

I see that some progress is made with auto layout, comparing to my previous test. It now works much better than before. But unfortunately the auto layout still does not work the way it should.

My major complain now is that the features are not sorted in alphabetical order, the way they arranged in the left pane. The items in the left panel are in alphabetical order, but in the workspace they are not in alphabetical order.

The auto layout should:

  1. If there is just one reader, then the items should be arranged in alphabetical order in the workspace
  2. If there are several readers (e.g. reading from different databases), then the workspace should also contain several sections, and the items should be arranged in alphabetical order within each section, according to the readers in the left pane

If you do not want to use it, then dont use it.

But do not prevent other people who need it from using it
