When bookmarks are closed, transformers inside the bookmark are not cached. While this is a great feature, I barely use it as closing and opening bookmark usually change the layout, and I really like to see the transformers and how many features go where. It would be nice to have a featurecaching enable / disable switch on bookmarks.

Great idea. I have been thinking about this as well. I would maybe go even further and also put a certain switch or checkbox on transformers.

I think that would be a good option to have. Perhaps a setting in the Options for Bookmark Based Caching or Transformer Based Caching.

I want this so bad. I added it to the ideas board at the last FME conference in Bonn but someone from Safe said that it might not be the easiest to implement. I hope that her comment was just some customer expectation management.

I find this a great idea, was about to post a similar idea. I think this would be great as the collapsing and uncollapsing of bookmarks can be problematic sometimes (with regards to space problems on the canvas)

Any idea if we can expect this feature next update?
This would make my life so much better. I hate collapsing bookmarks and then adding transformers outside of the bookmark. Just to forget they are there and then after uncollapsing everything looks like sh*t.

Also I only have 32gb ram, which is not enough for featurecaching all the models I run through FME

Hi @doko, @jobvdnoort

Could you confirm what version of FME Form you are running? We made improvements to the issue where transformers shifting around what you collapse/uncollapse bookmarks in 2025.1. I’d be interested to hear if this behaviour is still bothering you.

As for better cache control, we are exploring more granular cache control options to follow up the big updates we’re making to Data Caching in 2026.1. Thank you for sharing your pain points!

Hi @JennaKAtSafe

I’m constantly switching between FME versions for different projects (ranging from 2023 to 2025 versions). So it is possible that I overlooked some improvements in the newer versions of FME (I’ll give it a proper try). Thanks for the heads up.
