Takes a long time to download and update FME desktop. For example Microstation Bentley has an app called Connection Client that keeps the user current. It would be nice to have something like that in Safe FME environment.

Personally I would not like that at all. I have about 8 versions of FME installed om my PC at any one time, each version is of a very specific build that's a requirement for a particular client/project. There's also all kinds of implications when working with FME Server if your Desktop version is more recent.
+2Agree with @david_r as there are too many incremental builds. Maybe OK if you are working individually but in a team No Thanks. Have seen an issue today for a client using a slightly older version of desktop to that used in production and as such can't open the Workspace.
Additonally I don't find it too long to download & update.
