Should FME have an AutoDesk Forge API connector transformer to provide a more generic way of connecting to AutoDesk applications? Currently FME has an AutodeskA360Connector but users have mentioned the need to connect to Autodesk BIM 360 Docs (see idea) and other parts of the Forge API such as the Data Management and Model Derivative end points.

Would these needs be better solved simply by adding a new Web Service Connection type to FME?

Please comment below on any workflows or specific requirements relating to the AutoDesk Forge API.

Yes, although Autodesk keeps changing things around and am not sure how easily maintained these would be. We are not currently using Forge (comes at an extra hefty cost to do certain automation tasks that we can do in-house) but definitely want to keep an eye and have flexibility to easily connect to it. The A360 Connector isn't of much use to us. There were other things that would have been more useful but at the same time Autodesk hadn't exposed them yet (ex: publishing or accessing a Collaboration for Revit model), but that might have changed now with the release and rebranding of Collaboration for Revit to BIM 360 Design, which was supposedly built on top of Forge.

We use Forge to batch process large 3D models (mostly Revit and IFC) and a FME based access to the API would be really nice.

I would like to query model properties, or grab certain floorplans from multiple Revit files. That would be really usefull.

Oh yes, that'd be SO good to have! This opens up an entire new world for the entire AEC industry...

This is a very good idea. Any update about it?

We’ve reviewed this idea and the main use case for data management with the AutodeskDocsConnector has been addressed.

For scenarios that are not currently supported, we recommend using the HTTPCaller transformer as a flexible alternative.

If you have specific scenarios or use cases that require further support, please feel free to submit a new idea. Your input is always appreciated!
