I support the adoption of this format - it will allow the geotechnical industry to be more interoperable.

It would be great to have AGS borehole support natively within FME.

However I can understand why it is not as AGS is a niche format and tends to have many user dependent anomalies. The good news is that FME does a good job of fixing these.

At the British Geological Survey we have an FME workbench that reads AGS as text, validates the data and writes the borehole information out to multiple formats for use across BGS e.g. PDF, Google Earth, GSI3D/GroundHog, ESRI shape, Excel XLS, Access MDB, Oracle etc...

See attached examples of Google Earth and PDF output from FME.

This week we are processing 70000 legacy AGS 3.1 boreholes automatically using this workbench. (We've not seen many AGS 4 files yet).

Happy to discuss and share FME AGS knowledge.

Tony Myers

Cartographer,

BGS.

I would love to have a look at the AGS-validator. Would you like to update the attachments?

Hi I'd really be interested in having a look at that FME workflow as I think something similar is now cropping up at work with the need to get this sort of data into a BIM compatible format and something that can be more widely used and visualized.

Cheers

I'd also be massively interested in an AGS 4 reader. Would massively decrease my workload.

This would be a game changer for working with AGS and integrating the data with other programs so I would love it!

The AGSFileReader transformer has been added to FME Hub. This transformer can read AGS files in a manner similar to the FeatureReader with a single output port, and is best suited for simple conversions from AGS to tabular or database formats.
