As an FME AR app user, I'm very interested in the Geolocation function. With this addition, we'd like to use FME AR in the field.

Would be great if this works. This is what everyone would like to do with AR (inspection of objects for example) but not sure if phone hardware is good enough. May need RTK GPS and good compass.

...or allow you to manually line things up somehow if we got "close" to begin with ...

I've previously done tests with geolocated AR using ARkit with my iPhone 7 and would say that it is good enough for some use cases already. The phone GPS is accurate to about half a meter, but the compass in my tests were the main problem as they could be off by up to 15°. But as said, depending on the use case these limitations are workable. So I think the support makes sense, especially for the future.

As Dale says, It would be great to have the model in the right place (or the best place possible according to the device GPS precision ), at the right scale, and possibly adjust manually the position/scale.

Having managed to get a Google AR Core supported device running Android Pie last week, I am the new victim of FME AR.

I am experimenting with the FME AR format and the Android App.

Yes, support for geolocation would be the most desired functionality for geospatial datasets.

Geolocation is now supported by iOS version of FME AR.

With updated (FME 2020.0) FME AR Writer and FME AR app version 1.4 or higher, the user has full control over how the model is loaded: its scale, location, and rotation.

Android version of FME AR is coming soon.

Sadly, I can't get the Geolocation to work on my iPhone (7 plus, running iOS 13.4.1). The FMEAR app is updated and has access to the phone's location service, but when I load an FMEAR project, I get an error message, "Sensor Failed", and have to place the model manually. :-(

Hi @jonas_nelson

I am sorry to hear you are struggling with FME AR. Does it happen every time you are loading a model? Or only occasionally? What FME AR version do you have installed?

I have filed a bug report based on your feedback. We will investigate the problem. Meanwhile, if you could record and share a video, it might be very helpful.

@lenaatsafe: Is there any news about the Android version of FME AR? It's been lagging behind for a while now.

Hi @hanste,

Unfortunately not, it sounds like there needs to be an overhaul to the Android FME AR app according to Marks post: https://knowledge.safe.com/comments/106066/view.html

@lenaatsafe

Is Geolocation now supported in Android version of FMEAR app?

The article link below seems to be invalid?
