I am using Smallworld and have the need to translate to Microstation connect and take advantage of the type data so I would need a writer.

fyi I believe reading is going to be supported in FME 2019.2. Not sure about writing yet.

I also need to write to Microstation Connect with Item Type data. Hopefully gets supported soon.
+1Our organisation is moving to CONNECT in 2020 and we really need to have the ability to read in the Item Type attributes. Do you know if existing V8 files with Tagsets which are saved as CONNECT files will still be able to read in with FME 2019.1 with the tagset attributes still visible ?

This idea has been partially implemented in FME Desktop 2019.2 betas – read support for item sets have been added to the DGN v8 reader.
As with all beta features and beta versions of our software, they are not considered production-safe and should be incorporated into your workflows with consideration and testing.

My Microstation peeps say that 'tags' are deprecated and 'items' are the new standard in Microstation Connect.
This does make being able to write such 'items' a necessity very soon.

A: Yes! This is almost ready to go. We're just wrapping up testing - but this will be in 2022.0, and likely available in a Beta build in the next few weeks to test.

Hi, is there any documentation on how to use item types in the DGN writer? I'm unable to see them using the DGN v8 writer in FME ver 2022.1
