64-bit version of the GridInquest Transformer

The GridInquest Transformer is currently only available in the 32-bit version of FME Desktop. We currently use the GridInquest Transformer within a process to convert data from a local grid system to British National Grid and vice-versa. Having this transformer available in the 64-bit version of FME would enable us to take advantage of the benefits of 64-bit processing (e.g. ability to access more memory than in the 32-bit version). I would imagine that this would benefit a significant number of FME users in the UK.

I'm aware of 2 organisations in the UK who want this, both significant organisations and FME user bases.

We also use the GridInQuest transformer and a 64 bit version would enable us to process large datasets more quickly.

Just to add gravitas to this, I had a workspace processing Oracle Point Cloud to other formats and was using 64 bit version of FME 2015 but hit this problem. Think we had to abandon the re-projection element or run it on 32 bit FME which had performance implications.

Would love to do this but sadly this is not something we ourselves can address. We use libraries supplied by the Ordnance Survey Ireland and they are unable to provide 64 bit versions of these. That said, they have advised they are working to provide us an alternate, but we have no timeline. I can assure the group that as soon as we have something, we will get it into FME. So if you have connections to Ordnance Survey Ireland, please let them know that you would be helped if there were a 64 bit version.

In the meantime, I've asked the team to improve our error message for this scenario.

Just to update on this, Ordnance Survey, Ordnance Survey Ireland and Land & Property Services have released version 2 of the GridInquest Software. The GridInquest II software is available for Windows (32 and 64-bit), Linux (32 and 64-bit) and OSX. GridInquest II is based on the OSTN15 transformation network and the OSGM15 geoid model. OSTN15/OSGM15 replaced the previous models OSTN02/OSGM02 in August 2016. Would it be possible to update the GridInquest Transformer with GridInquest II, and also make this available in FME Desktop 64-bit?

GridInquest II can be downloaded here:

More information about OSTN15/OSGM15 can be found here:

Thanks for this update. We've reached out to the developers in the UK and are working to find a way to get this into FME 2017 sooner rather than later.

The first iteration of the new Transformer is now available. The implementation is using the GridInQuestII library by Paul Michell under LGPLv2.1 and the transformer is available in betas of FME 2017 starting Build 17216 (available right now on www.safe.com/beta) and works on both 32 bit and…. 64 bit Windows!

Massive thanks to Safe Software for making this possible.

Up vote for the OSTN15 transformation in FME. I haven't used the GridInquest transformer.
