Welcome to the last What’s Up Wednesday in October
Community Appreciation Day
October 27th was the first annual Community Appreciation Day. We wanted to say thank you for being a part of the FME Community and making it what it is today. From the long lost years of FMEPedia to our new community focused community, thank you for contributing! Mark Ireland posted a blog post yesterday highlighting some of the awesome community members as well as some new swag!
Cloud Integration Tools
Stewart goes through different ways to store your data in the cloud while using FME Cloud in a new blog post about cloud integration tools. He also provides useful benchmarks from different storage platforms to help you choose what is best for your company.
Work for Safe
Did you know we are hiring? With the on-going pandemic, we’ve started hiring remote positions, so now you don’t need to be in the Vancouver/Surrey area to work for Safe! Our only stipulation to work remotely is that you live in Canada. Check out one of the current openings.
Webinars
Next week, there's not one but TWO awesome FME webinars. The first one on November 4th is the sequel to last week's BIM webinar. The other is on November 5th, which will be our second Ask Me Anything webinar, this time we’re focusing on integrating spatial data, so get those questions in!
Live Chat Offline?
Have you tried to access our Live Chat Monday - Friday from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm PST but received an Offline message? Be sure to allow all cookies for both safe.com and community.safe.com. For more information, see this troubleshooting article.
FME Hackathon Wrap-up
Thank you to all who participated in this year’s hackathon! We donated $5 to charity for every person who participated in the hackathon as well as $500 to both the winning teams’ charity of choice. At the end of the hackathon, we donated $1500 split between the World Federation of Mental Health, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, and Redes da Maré.
Transformer Spotlight: GeometryRemover
Today’s transformer in the spotlight is the GeometryRemover, which is #72 in our most used transformers list. It completely removes the geometry of the feature, for example, if you want to turn spatial data into non-spatial data.
Fun Fact: The GeometryRemover does not reset the dimension (i.e., it makes a 2D IFMENull or a 3D IFMENull based on the dimensionality of the input data). So placing a GeometryRemover before both sides of a ChangeDetector, and then checking geometry anyways, can detect 2D-vs-3D differences in the original data.
