Hi folks,

Let's call this edition of What's Up Wednesday the "GIS Day Special" - although by the time I finished writing it's more like a "Meme Special"!

32-Bit Deprecation

In case you missed it, external factors mean that we've had to bring forward the deprecation of FME on Windows 32-bit. FME 2021.2 will be the last FME version to support 32-bit! FME 2022 onwards will be 64-bit only.

Most formats already worked on both 32- and 64-bit platforms, including ones you might think of as mostly 32-bit, such as File Geodatabase, Microsoft Access, and Smallworld.

But some formats are 32-bit only and will therefore be missing from future FME versions. We will try and supply patches (to 2021) if necessary and where possible, but we really do encourage users to upgrade to 64-bit.

For more information, read this article on our knowledge base.

For similar reasons, the FME Integration Console tool is also being retired. This was the tool that searched out related applications on your system and added FME functionality. But most of the supported applications are being retired themselves, so the Integration Console is being phased out too.

Even though I haven't used it in years, I'm actually quite sad about that (or "sadge" as my fellow kids on Twitch say).

Question-of-the-Week Video

So I'm trying to create a video each week about the Question-of-the-Week. This week I covered how to use the SchemaMapper transformer to map attribute names and values (with some bonus Geoguessr footage at the end - so the FME part isn't as long as you'd think).

The title and thumbnail of the video refer to the fact it took me an agonizingly long time to remember how to use the transformer! Well, it was a Friday afternoon.

Events

By the time you read this, you might have already missed today's Getting Started with LRS Custom Transformers with the FME Transportation Group; but I expect it will be recorded. If you can't see the event, join the group first.

Similarly, Statistics Canada is holding a virtual GIS Day event today. I believe there are a couple of Safe staff presenting, so go watch now!

How can FME change the world? Check it out in this webinar on December 14th. I'll be writing a blog to go along with it, so keep an eye out for that too, and if you have any examples of FME-related projects for non-profit groups, please let me know.

Miscellaneous

I love seeing users get their FME certification. Here's one who recently completed the trio of Desktop, Server, and Trainer. Congratulations to Thomas for your achievement.

Here's a nice endorsement of FME for BIM. Look at that model in the visual preview window!

WUW17Nov-3Thanks for posting, Aureliu.

Once again we are asking for you to contribute reviews of FME to the Gartner Peer Insights event. Early reviews receive a gift card and everyone gets the FME Community badge.
