I need to make a mapbook export (png/pdf) for different thematic maps with a large legend. For the boudingbox of the map I would like to insert a dynamic legend (filtered) based on the content in the bounding box.

You can use a Sampler to figure out which value(s) appear within your bounding box, then generate an appropriate number of legend entry boxes next to the map.
This can be tricky, you need to work in a certain coordinate space to make sure all the layout elements line up. Without any more indication of what you’re trying to do it’ll be hard to give you good advice.
