intersept polylines with given points

Hi, I have a point dataset with an unique attribute and a polyline dataset. The points are a subset of the vetrices of the polylines. I'd like to know, how can I intersept the polylines with the points and add an attribute to the lines out of the unique point attribute at the start and the end of the cutted polylines. The image below shows what I mean.     Thanks for your ideas!

Sketchup Layers

I am using FME to write a Sketchup files with a combination of different elements.  Is there a way to define layers with FME in a sketchup file?  I examined a sketchup file with layers using the logger in FME and it looks like the GeometryTrait "sketchup_layer_name" is used define the layer of the object.  But when I add this attribute to my translation the objects are not placed on different layers.  They all still end up on Layer 0.

RegEx for null or empty attributes

What RegEx can I use to define null or empty attributes in StringReplacer? Or do I even need to use RegEx? I'm trying to replace null/empty attributes with UNKNOWN. Seems simple enought but it's giving me fits.

Has anyone exported attributes from an XFM-DGN to any type of spatial database?

I would like to know if anyone has exported attributes from an XFM-DGN to any type of spatial database successfully? The XFM-DGN reader was made available in the 2012 version and our organization is starting to test this functionality. Any thoughts on the translation process? Did everything work as expected?

How old is FME?

Okay, I feel like I'm on Jeopardy, phrasing my answer in the form of a question, but I wanted to mark the 16th birthday of FME's official release in the community somehow.  So the answer is, it is 16.   The original release announcement is found here: https://groups.google.com/group/comp.cad.cadence/tree/browse_frm/month/1996-11/6b17c9ab20d225c2?rnum=81&_done=%2Fgroup%2Fcomp.cad.cadence%2Fbrowse_frm%2Fmonth%2F1996-11%3F   But perhaps a better question is what do the next 16 years hold? Cross platform UI? FME on Google Glass? Support for spatially enabled video? "Think to add" transformers in the canvas? Let's see what the best answer is...

Building dynamic SQL

Cheers!  I'm currently modelling a workflow that uses SQL creator for querying a PostGIS DB and a set of published paramteres in order to enable the user to make choices that will be passed on as predicates in the SQL string.  This works fine for most parameters (to/from date e.g.) but somehow I'm not able to figure out how to prompt for an input geometry file (e.g. a Shape file), extract the geometry and use the WKT ("POLYGON((XXXX))")  from this file in the SQLCreator. I've tried using the GeometryExtractor and this extracts the WKT, but how do I pass this on as a predicate in the SQL creator?  Regards,  Stian Aamot

Dividing Integers, Managing Number Types

How do I specify what type of number I want for arithmetic operations? For example, when use the Attribute Creator and then the Arithmetic Editor to divide two numbers that are integers, the result is a rounded/truncated integer, but I want a number that is 3 decimal places...

Is there still any support for MapPoint Desktop?

At one point there was a press release http://www.safe.com/about/news/press/archive/41/ but I don't remember hearing anything about this since. Now I think there's MPSuperShape and a couple other third-party tools from tiny vendors, but I don't know of any major vendors providing support for import into MapPoint.

Selection geoprocessing from multiple records of same name

Here is the brief I have recieved from my supervisor 'The overall purpose of this exercise is to provide SSO with evidence of the largest area of land granted to tenement holders within a native title claim area. Most of this process is straightforward but becomes complicated when we deal with tenements that have had multiple boundaries over their lifespan. The filtering process is currently done manually and can take a staff member weeks to achieve when there are 10,000+ rows of records to examine and filter. Any steps towards automation of this process will be a great help. '   So far in my FME model have been able to isolate and clean out boundary description by globally deleting them over the whole shapefile. All tenements that have single bounadaries in their lifetime have been moved elsewhere. I have reduced the number of tenements by 80% and am now left with the more complex multiple boundaried tenements   The criteria for isolating the specific tenement from multiple te

FME Desktop and UNC Paths

Is there any advantage in using UNC paths rather than mapped paths in FME Desktop? Wouldn't UNC  be better for batching and portablity?  Cheers, Jeff N

3D KMZ Model

I have succesfullty created a temporally animated 3D model showing usage per section for an athletic stadium. While the animated 3D model looks great, it doesn't show any data when I pause the animation and click on one of the 3D models. I was wondering if it is possible to have the attribute table containing my original data to be displayed when I click on one of the 3D models as happens when I click on a point within google eart?  I hope this quetion makes sense and I appreciate any feedback.

FME in Application Virtualization (App-V) Environment

Has anyone had luck delivering FME in an App-V environment?  Our company is trying to get all apps delivered this way.  The problem we run in to with FME is the dependence on Arc licensing for certain readers/writers.  From what I am told by our application packagers, App-V applications are agnostic of other App-V applications.  Therefore, when running FME in App-V, ESRI readers and writers are not available.  Our workaround for now is using a standard install with FME, and starting up the App-V version of ArcGIS when FME opens.  It works, but isn't exactly what we are looking for.

Translating Microstation to Civil 3d

I trialed FME late alst year.  I had limited success translating microstation to Civil 3D - Many times it fails - I am not certain if it the 3d in MS that is causing the trouble.  Any suggestons from the community on best practices for this type of translation?  Thanks

Best way of logging counts of an attribute from numerous transformers into csv file??

Hi there I have a fairly complex workspace and I would like to record the number of items that come out numerous transformers (in particulat feature mergers). What I have done so far is adding a statistic calculator and an attribute creator after each important transformer and I write  the data into a csv file.. The output is presented in two columns: definition of count and count. The problem is that it makes the workspace very messy as it adds a lot of connectors. Is there a simpler way of doing this? This info is recorded by FME anyway as it is displayed on the connectors and in the log file...just wondering if there is an simpler way to log numerous counts into a csv file...thanks

SQLExecutor + Stored Procedure in MSSQL: Executed or not?

When using the SQLExecutor with a Normal SQL like: SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE id LIKE 11111  It will return an attribute "_matched_records" with the number of records matched in from TRIGGER port.  However when using an EXEC-statement this does not seem to happen. Like this:  EXEC @return_value = [dbo].[myStoredProcedure] @ID = N'@Value(IID)',  @myTableValue = N'@Value(myValue)',      So after doing this it is not possible to figure out if the EXEC have actually run and inserted the needed attribute - or if there is an error performing this request. Anyone with a good workaround OTHER than doing another SQLExecutor to try to read back the data and try to compare the features? (Many features = alot of time reading and writing)

Launch workspace from MapInfo?

HI,  We're an ESRI shop, but I have some colleagues that run river modelling software that is closely linked with MapInfo.  They want to batch process raster grids that emerge from the models (raster cell calculations and polygon and surface creation).  Is it possible to define an FME workspace and then trigger that from within MapInfo, like it would be by creating a 'Spatial ETL Tool' in ArcGIS?  Thanks, Ian

Bring readers/writers back to Workspace from Navigation Pane

Hi, it's probably something supersilly but when I have added readers/writers to the Workspace (FME Workbench 2012), delete them, but keep them in the Navigation Pane. How can I get them back to show up in the Workspace? The solution to this probably also works for the question I have about the XML reader, when I add an XML reader it never shows up in the Workspace it only stays in the Navigation Pane.  I searched the web but I got the impression that I'm the only one with this problem (or the only one not finding the solution :S) and for some reason I keep forgetting to ask somebody else. Now finally there's a community 24/7 ;-)  Cheers, Annet

Python shutdown script

I am using FME to produce a number of .xls files and need to rename those files by adding the current date (and time hopefully) to the file name at the end of the process using a shutdown python script. I have cobbled below together from information I have found online but it won't work and I don't have python knowledge to fix it.   import os, datetime path='C:\\FME' to_ext='*.xls' for file_name in os.listdir(path):             root, ext = os.path.splitext(file_name)             t = os.path.getmtime(file_name)             v = datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp(t)             x = v.strftime( ' %d-%m-%Y')                   os.rename(os.path.join(path, file_name), os.path.join(path, root+x+to_ext))      I would appreciate any help.    Thanks

I am trying to assemble three different sets of output data, adds, edits and deletes into a geodatabase

I am trying to assemble several datasets into one. I need to add the edited or added data in to our original/master/parent/production data set.  I also need to delete the data that should be deleted.  I have a separate feature class for the added, edited and deleted data.  I am not sure how to delete data from the original geodatabase.  I think that I am getting two ids for the added and edited when they are added to the output/published geodatabase.

How to merge or assemble similar types of data in to one large dataset? These are ESRI feature classes. I would like to use the city’s SDE geodatabase as the reader source.

I am trying to merge or assemble several feature classes of  water pipe data together, they have similar but not exactly similar schemas. They are Water, Reclaimed water and their laterals as separate feature classes.  I am working on the feature merger tool. I thought that the swizler would work, but I could not get it to run.  I also want to merge data within a feature class, deleting  several  items.
