Hi ... How can I check the availablily of an FME license using python? I want to make sure a license is available before executing a series of arcgis and fme steps. I think I've seen it somewhere on fmepedia before but I can't find the thread now. Ken

Different size text from the same layer

I am importing Smallworld data and outputting DWG files. The strange issue I am running into is that the road name text for horizontal roads displays at a larger text height that the road name text for roads running North and South. All of the road labeling text is on the same layer as well. If there is other information you need me to provide please let me know. I am very new to FME. Thanks Adam

reprojector distorting arcs

I have a file that is in a LL-84 projection. It contains a series of areas paritally composed of arcs. I would like to reproject the file to a mercator coordinate system prior to stroking the arcs. However, even when I set the Allow Arc and Ellipse stroking to No, it still appears to stroke the arcs prior to reprojecting. This presents a problem since the final dataset I need to create is in mercator. By stroking the arcs while they are still in the LL-84 projection, they take on a bulged shape in the final dataset. Is there anyway around this other than reprojected outside of FME? I am using 2013 SP1

batch run with dynamic schema does not bring results

Hello, I have a workspace, where I read data from a non-spatial and a spatial database. I write the data to a dynamic schema into an Esri file geodatabase. The workspace runs fine, when I start it with FME, but it doesn't write any data to the geodatabase, if i call the same workspace with a batch file. What can be the problem? Thank you for your help. order of fgdb fields

When creating a new file geodatabase feature class from an existing schema, native fields such as SHAPE_Length are appended to the end of the table, ie the last column. Since it is possible to add new fields in arc, but not reorder them permanently, I am struggling to work out how to replicate a schema exactly where these fields are not at the end. Any ideas?

Data Harmonization / Generalization

I have a raster and a vector landcover dataset I want to harmonize in terms of thematic and spatial resolution. The raster dataset is of much higher resolution in both terms. For geometric harmonization I'm using a RasterResampler transformer to get a 100x100 meters spatial resoluton, no big deal. However, the thematic harmonization is quite a different beast. I want to achive a minimum mapping unit (MMU) of 25 hectares, because that's what my vector dataset has. So the smallest identifyable feature size should be equal to that. Smaller areas should be 'removed', that is, they should be attributed with the predominant landcover that they are surrounded with. A generalization so to say. I tried the Amalgamator and a AreaCalculator / Tester combination to achive what I want, unfortuinately to no avail.

RasterCellCoercer transformer

Hi guys, I am using RasterCellCoercer and then CoordinateExtractor to convert an ESRI ASCII Grid into a CSV file. Does anyone know where in the original cell the X and Y coordinate are taken from? Ie: is it in the centre of the cell, top-left corner, etc? Thankyou

Writing annotation

Hi, I'm trying to find a way to write to an Annotation Class in a File GDB. I've figured how to write correctly the text I'm reading from coverage input data, but when reprojecting in ArcMap all my labels won't reproject. Is there a way to write annotation that can be reprojected normally using ArcMap? Thanks,

Transformation FORMULA in defining custom datum

Hi all, I'm defining a custom datum in MyCoordSysDefs.fme, using Bursa transformation method (which is described as an approximation of the Seven Parameter Method). But I confuse because there are 2 formulas of this method, named "Position Vector" (as defined by EPSG:9606) and "Coordinate Frame" (EPSG:9607). What is exactly the formula of Bursa/Wolf transformation using in FME ?

Smoothing edges between DEMs

In the article on parallell processing (http://fmepedia.safe.com/articles/Samples_and_Demos/Parallel-Processing) the TINGenerator example uses a second instance of the same transformer to "smooth away" the edges between the 20 fist created smaller TINs and create a larger one. Can I achieve the same effect somehow using the rasterdemgenerator and/or something else as creating DEMs is timeconsuming and would be nice to do over a longer time?

RegEx for finding more than one letter in a string

Hi all, I have a string 'Apples Bananas Cherries' in a complete attribute field and I want to extract the capital letters and put them in another new attribute field, result being: 'ABC'. How can I do this? Perhaps Rubular.com (v useful) whetted my appetited because when I used [A-Z] it highlighted each capital but StringSearcher in FME would only return the 'A'. I've tried numerous other ways including [A-Z]+ and different variations. Can anyone help? Regards, Ian

ArcSDE to SQLite

Hi! I have a problem with a transformation from an ArcSDE-database to a SQLite-database. When I go from the ArcSDE-database to shapefiles it is about 10 times faster compared to if I go to the SQLite-database. I have WRITER MODE: INSERT and I want to overwrite the database. I am using FME2013 Esri edition.

I'm trying to Find multiple attributes and replace with different text. I'm not sure what syntax to use in the regular expression or to use a condition statement. example: Text to Find: Red OR Green OR Blue Replacement Text: Stop,Go,Other In the above example I want to find all the attributes that indicate Red with Stop . . .Green with Go .....etc.

Pass DGN list from WorkspeceRunner

Hi All, I created a Workbench reading a set of DGN Files, set with a publisehd parameter. The parameter was created by right-clicking on the input field for the DGN files. For some reason, it has no type, and I can't pick another one. So far, so good. I try to run this Workbench within a WorkspaceRunner, where I concatenate the filepaths, separated by a comma: D:\\MyDocuments\\National_Map\\Data\\LIM\\lim.dgn,D:\\MyDocuments\\National_Map\\Data\\LIM\\extra_dgn\\5_industrie.dgn The WorkspaceRunner returns following error: IGDS Reader could not open file D:\\MyDocuments\\National_Map\\Data\\LIM\\lim.dgn,D:\\MyDocuments\\National_Map\\Data\\LIM\\extra_dgn\\5_industrie.dgn for input Program Terminating Translation FAILED. However, when I copy-paste the string with the paths to the respective Workbench, it runs smoothly. So, the paths are correct, but I have the impression that the comma is not applied as separator when it is received from the WorkspaceRunner. A

Writers output filename for Raster Feature class same as input is not happening

Hi All, I have hit a wall, I cannot get FME to save the input's filename as the output’s filename. Input is: 291000-6996000_1m_DEM.xyz output is Raster feature class inside a ESRI geodatabase. I’m trying to get output’s Raster feature class name same as the input (note output filename can’t start with a number). I can change the original .xyz filenames to add a c in front, for example (if required). Also this all needs to go into 1 geodatabase as I have hundreds of large .xyz files. I managed to get the batch to work but it saved multiple geodatabases with the inputs name and with 1 raster inside each, all with the same name. In the workbench all I have is Reader, RasterDEMGenerator, Writer [GEODATABASE_FILE_RASTER_DATASET] Cheers

Smallworld Annotation

I am importing ACAD into SW. I have parcels with the lot numbers as text in ACAD. I am able to get the attributes passed to SW but I would like to be able to place the annotation in SW. I have tried the Labeller and and the (InsidePointReplacer & LabelPointReplacer) combo. Bottom line is I am really new to FME. Can anyone tell me how to make this work? Thanks!! BK

Scripted parameters - using python script to extract values from JSON

Hi all, I'm trying to define some user parameters using scripted parameters. I've written a python script that loads a JSON from a url into a dictionary then extracts the value for defined key. My Private Parameter is called classField. It works fine when I run it from my Python IDE but not in workbench. What do I need to add/remove to make it work in workbench? Line with in a buffer

I am new to FME so sorry if the question is not clear or silly. I would like to create a workflow that compares two sets of data. Well really it is one dataset that I want to manipulate the data first and then compare it to itself. The dataset is a list of two sets of points in latitude and longitude coming from excel. Example Line lat1 long1 lat2 long2 Line1 39.9379 -104.9802 39.9508 -104.9768 I would like to link these two points to create a line and then add a buffer to the line of 300 ft. So my workflow looks something like this: 1) Reader 2) 2DPointAdder into another 2DPointAdder (creating the line) 3) Reproject (reprojecting from degrees to feet) 4) Buffer (add buffer ft) 5) reproject (reporjecting back in to degrees) I then want to compare the original list back and see if any of the original lines are within the new buffer. Guys, I need yous help, I'm dealing with a dxf file which contains lines and polylines (autocad_lwpolyline and autocad_line). I'd like to convert these polylines into lines. How to do that? I think, The first operation must be to add point on every edges of the polylines and then to cut them using these created points. Selecting features by attribute

Hi all, I know this is a simple question, but I can't get it to work for some reason. I want to take polygons that all have an School_ID and filter out the ones that have an ID not equal to 0... I'm trying to use an AttributeFilter, but can't get it to work... I have set the "Attribute to Filter By" to the SCHOOL_ID column. ...and set a "possible attribute value" to various values, including <> 0, <> "0", > 1, etc. to no avail. I can get the tool to work if I set a possible value to a valid SCHOOL_ID, such as 263...then the resulting feature class has only that 1 feature in it. Any thoughts appreciated! Thanks, -mb

exposing format attributes on multiple inputfeatures

Hi, I cant find a way to expose format attributes on multiple inputfeatures. I got a load of inputfeatures for wich i wish to expose ie 'fme_feature_type' There is no provision for this??? 1 by 1 is like..a lot of tedious clicking. It would be nice if there would be. (i am still on 2012 version btw)
