Hello, I have a network of pipes with different diameter; With "lineonline-overlayer" I seperate points, which have the attributes from the pipes and the attribute "overlaps". This attribute overlaps can have a value from 2 to 5. So at this points meet minimum 2 and maximum 5 pipes. With "list_exploder" I can create at the same place more than one point, so 2 or 3... until 5. Question: how to compare the overlaying points in case of looking for different diameter? the restult should be ONE point on this place where the diameter of one of the points is NOT the same. thanks and regards, oman

Line on Area Overlayer: left and right

Hi Guys, I'm reading TomTom MultiNet shapfiles. For certain roads, I need to add an extra administrative level (province, level A2 in Belgium). The LineonArea Overlayer works fine and returns 2 areas when the line is exactly on the border. In MultiNet, the topology should be all right, so there will never be three areas. So, the list resulting of the Overlayer will contain 2 elements at the most. I now need a way to define which province is on the left and which province is on the right, according to the direction of the line. I can't find any existing transformers doing this, but I hope I'm missing out on this one. Any ideas? best regards, Jelle

"The number of points is less than required for feature'

Been experiencing an issue with a workspace since upgrading to 2013, well, last year. The workspace writes a series of 3D lines and another set of points based on a python script. We've been using the same script since 2009, and as far as I can tell the issue is not there but when the feature classes it creates are inserted into the SDE. Here's the weird part; the entire workspace runs just fine in 2011. It writes without issue to the SDE, which is ArcSDE 10 but the way. When the same workspace is run in th 2013 SP4, I get an ArcObjects error, '-2147215975', or, as the topic states, "The number of points is less than required for feature.' Any ideas how I can get 2013 to handle the features whatever way ti was handling them before in 2011? Well, other than what I've been doing and just running it in 2011 when it fails. I've already tried GeometryFilter and geometryValidator, with both validating features that then throw that error. Any assistance wou

Workbench finishes in 12.9 seconds in Desktop but never ends in Server, For the same data source, the workbench finishes in 12.9 seconds in Desktop but when the same workbench is run from the FME Serve with same data source it never ends What might be the issue here? Thank you Best Jamal

“Feature Types to Read” parameter issue in the published workbench,

“Feature Types to Read” parameter issue in the published workbench, I wondering why there is no option in the published workbench to browse to select the required features. In the Desktop, if the 3 dots icon is clicked, then a new window (Select Feature Types) is open to allow selecting the required types as shown in the screenshot below How the “Select Feature Types” can be open while working in the published workbench such that one can selected the required types? Publish to FME Server: Workspace Name issue, I couldn’t figure out why “Publish to FME Server” doesn’t take the name of my file as “Workspace Name” but instead it takes other name My file name is: UrbanMasterPlan_CAD_To_GIS_03.fmw The name read by the FME (Workspace Name) is: T1_Published From where the “T1_Published” is read considering that the name of my file is “UrbanMasterPlan_CAD_To_GIS_03.fmw” as shown in the screenshot below What might be the issue here? Problem with AttributeCreator, Python parameter with space

Hi all, I have a set of CSV files that I'm trying to parse, and they each contain several lines of metadata before the actual CSV-formatted data. I'd like to add the metadata as new attributes to each feature that I parse out using the CSV reader. Currently I'm using a set of Python scripted parameters to open the file and parse out each line of metadata into its own parameter, then using the AttributeCreator transformer to create the new attributes and assign the parameter values. This works great except when the parameter contains a space, in which case the parameter is never assigned to the new attribute. I can work around it by having Python replace spaces with underscores, but I'd prefer to keep the spaces if possible. Is there a better way to handle this kind of situation? Is this a bug that may be fixed in a newer version (I'm on 2013 SP1)? Thanks!

Excel Writer: Dynamic Row and Column using Template File

I have an Excel report template in which I need to update specific row/column fields and they are not in consecutive order. In other words, I want to update Row1,Column3 and then Row10,Column8, etc.... Is there a way to dynamically set the Start Column and Start Row parameters within the Writer Format Parameters? I tried, with no success, creating Row and Column attributes and then setting the parameters within the writer as @Value(Row) and @Value(Column). Or is there a better way to do this when using a template for a Writer?

Read/write to same GDB

Hi, I'm having trouble reading from, and writing to, the same ESRI gdb. I'm just doing a simple transformation and have tried on a few different gdb's but get the same problem - it just hangs part way through the process. I'm assuming it is possible to read and write to the same gdb. I've made sure all ESRI products are closed to prevent any locking, but to no avail. Any help appreciated. Cheers Toby

Has anybody seen a chart online that represents all the True Type fonts and what they stand for? Example: igds_font 1024 = Aerial I'm looking for a chart with all these values and what they represent....as I have a bunch of text to a DGN and would like to use different fonts for different labels...

What's up with the change to the Python API for nulls in Build 14252?

Hi everyone, Build 14252 (http://downloads.safe.com.s3.amazonaws.com/fme/beta/whatsnew_sp.txt) included this changelist: “Python API change: getAttribute() and getTrait() now return empty strings, rather than None, for null values. (PR#51278)” Why was this API change introduced? Takashi helped us discover, in his blog article (http://fme-memorandum-takashi.blogspot.ca/2014/01/efficiency-of-list-attribute.html), an unintended inconsistency in our Python API. FME 2014 has added support for null values through its FME Objects APIs. Support is added both for features and geometries. Existing API methods and functions that wrap around the string versions of getAttribute() and getTrait() from the FME core return empty strings for nulls, as intended. All APIs appear to behave this way in FME 2014 except the Python API. Therefore, we made the Python API consistent with the other APIs as part of FME 2014 SP1. Hi All, I have the feeling that the order for the input and output ports is related to their position in the custom transformer itself. In order not to have crossing lines in the Workspace, it would be easier if I could set the order straightforwardly. Any tips on how to do this? best regards, Jelle

Is there any way to get the FeatureReader to return Geodatabase Metadata? On the Geodatabase readers there is a "Feature Read Mode" parameter that allows you to choose to get Features or Metadata, but how do you specify that with the FeatureReader?

Inappropriate handling of non-numeric values in shapefile reader / writer

Hi, We've stumbled across what seems to be a bug (or perhaps a design decision that we haven't understood!) in the shapefile reader and writer. The DBF format defines the type of a field in its header, but there is nothing physically preventing a field that is numeric from having text data stored in it (because internally, numbers are stored as text in the DBF format). Hence, it is up to any implementation of the DBF format to make sure that the correct types of values are written to a field, and to behave sensibly if the wrong types are read from the field. FME doesn't seem to do this. We translated some data to shapefiles. The data have a column entitled "Number" which contains road numbers. We set up the shapefile writer to store this data in a numeric field, without properly inspecting all the data. However it turns out that the data actually occasionally contain text values, such as "A3030" (reasonably enough because that's how British roads

parallel processing level in FME Base edition

Hi, as mentioned earlier, I am currently working with FME Base edition, which has certain limitations. I want to ask if somebody happen to know if parallel processing is available in FME Base edition. In the dialog, the parallel processing level may be set in range from "No parallelism" to "Extreme". However, for options other than "No parallelism" I sometimes get an error message saying that TransporterFactory is not licensed. Does it have something to do with Base edition or am i doing wrong something else? The available documentation doesn't say anything about parellelism in FME Base. Thanks, Jaro

Extracting photos from Microsoft SQL Database to network drive

Hi everyone, I have photos store in a Microsoft SQL Spatial Database which I am trying to extract out on our job drive (i.e. a normal network drive). I've had a search of previous responses and it seems that the AttributeFileWriter is the relevant transformer, however I can't get it to work! The photo is stored in an Attribute field called P_Picture. I added the relevant reader and connected the AttributeFileWriter with the following parameters: Source: P_Picture Target Filename: P_Picture If Target Exists: Overwrite File Target File Character Encoding: System Default (fme-system) When I run it, I get an error: "AttributeFileWriter: This FME edition does not recognise the 'o' function. Please ensure that the current platform supports this function, the function name is spelled correctly, and that you have installed all the required plugins" I'm am running: Win 7, 64-bit, FME 32-bit, SP4 ESRI Edition (should be able to read db format in) Any pointe

Importing a big dataset of Collada files to Workspace

Hi all, I would need your advice. I have a lot of Collada files (more than 40000 files) and I want to import them to FME in order to add them some attributes and export them again to Collada. What is the easiest way to do that? I tried with add directories, but it didn't work. Or what is the easiest way to conect mulitple readers with transformer. Thank you for your advice in advance!

Custom Transformer Feature' Attritbutes vs Parameters

Hi, We are 2 guys and want to create some work bench to handle dozen of different data from dozen of different DB (btw the purpose is to create some XML and populate a single common DB with all this data ). The thing is we also want some "end user" to be able to write some work bench. Actually we have made ~30 custom transformer (CT) already (all are linked) Here is our question: What is the best way to specify (or not) CT parameters ? 1_ copy feature attribute in CT parameters and add a AttributeCreator from parameters to feature attribute. We thinks it's a bit ugly, but the clearer for the end user: specify what we expect. 2_assume the feature have an attribute called "foo" and handle it that way ... and let the user deal with errors if his feature are missing attributes. 3_?? we don't know how to say "we want a feature with 'foo' and 'bar'".

Print format errors after plotter change

We recently switched from HP plotters to EPSON plotters, and have had multiple issues with these over the last couple of months. Strangely, our floating licenses are able to print to these plotters without issue, our single use license user is having some problems. When he prints to these new Epson plotters, his print format have numerous errors. Some bubbles are larger, some smaller, some colors are off, some pieces are missing. The text appears to be untouched, but any bubble surrounding the text is skewwed, missing, or someplace else on the page. It is almost as if his license has a special driver or print filter that is doing this. Suggestions?

Colorramp to stretch raster image

Hi all, In GDAL it's easy to stretch a raster image with a colorramp that can look for example like this: 0 255 255 255 5 225 225 225 10 205 205 205 15 190 190 190 20 178 178 178 25 166 166 166 30 154 154 154 35 142 142 142 40 130 130 130 90 0 0 0 This ramp stretches for example every pixel with a value between 0 and 5 to an rgb value between 255 and 225. What is the smartest way to do the same thing in FME Workbench? I thought about using the RasterExpressionEvaluator but it seems to me like the expression needs to be quite complicated. Is there a better way of doing it?
