FME 2014 now supports NULLs and is available as a beta for testing.

Hi all, A lot of work has been done in FME 2014 to improve the handling of null values in attributes in the various Database formats. We are now ready to have customers test this functionality and let us know of any issues that they run into. CSV Reader - Option: "File Has Field Names: yes"

Hello, my problem is to read a CSV file without field names. You can find the images mentioned in the error description in the folder "Screenshots" . It read and process the file " Importbeispiel_100_Adressen.csv " successfully. I use the parameters as shown in the screenshots "csv_parameter_1.jpg" and "promt_and_run_1.jpg". The expected result ("_target_url") is correct: "http://fvs72.lgb.local/gdigeokoder/RestService/GeokodiereAdresse?key=zgnsjf&str=Milmersdorfer%20Chaussee&hn=25&hne=&plz=17268&ort=Ahrensdorf&ot=&srs=EPSG:25833" If I want to read the file "Importbeispiel_100_Adressen_oue.csv" (see "promt_and_run_2.jpg") it does not work. Create false colour infrared from 4 band tiff (RGBa -> RGB)

I have a 4 band TIFF image (RGBa), where the "a" band is the near infrared band. I need to create an RGB image from this where the "a" band is mapped to the Red channel, the Red band is mapped to the Green channel, and the Green band is mapped to the Blue channel. This would create a "false colour" RGB image that enhances the vegetation. I'm pretty sure this can be done but I don't have much experience with Rasters and FME. Any help would be appreciated on which transformers to use. thanks

Error in clipper: “Invalid Clippee detected, using first coordinate of Clippee.”, I wanted to apply the clipper between two hatches (areas) layer but I got the error below “Invalid Clippee detected, using first coordinate of Clippee” The first layer is: Boundary_UrbanMasterPlan_HatchType_Design_Compulsory The second layer is: Landuse_UrbanMasterPlan_HatchType_Design_Compulsory Mathematically, Roads = Boundary - Landuse What might be the issue here? How to make readers without input not throw an error ?

Hi, I'm attempting to run a workspace that calls other workspaces (on an FME Server), collecting and passing a list of path names as input to the detail workspaces' readers. When no path names are available for a specific reader (they're read from a db table), a blank string is passed. This however yields an error (when the reader apparently tries to open a file with a blank name), crashing the whole workspace. Is there any way of disabling one or more readers based on a blank input ? If not, Safe, this is an enhancement suggestion !!! Cheers Lars I Nielsen

ExpressionEvaluator and @function()s no longer work in FME 2013

I have an expression for calculating a line segment angle like this: atan2(@Coordinate(y,0)-@Coordinate(y1),@Coordinate(x,0)-@Coordinate(y,1)) It used to work in FME 2012. Changing an attribute name based on Source name, dynamically

Hello, i've been struggling with an issue that probably has an answer in Schema Mapper; I have around 30 shapefiles, 1 million (ish) features in each, that have a CATEGORY attribute and a CODE attribute, amongst many other things. The thing that makes them unique is that their file name is the year of generation (1994, 2006 etc) and there is also an attribute called year with the corresponding year in it for every feature, for clarity. I simply want to rename CATEGORY to CATEGORYXX, where XX represents the last two digits of the year being processed - e.g. CATEGORY94 or CATEGORY06, and do the same for CODE - eg CODE94 etc. That is simple and fine with AttributeRenamer or Creator or SubstringExtractor but i cannot go through all 30 files changing the attribute on the writer to be CODE91 then CODE 92 etc etc, especially when they may need processing more than once in the future. Removing the “overlap” (duplicates) with the option (create new feature),

Removing the “overlap” (duplicates) with the option (create new feature), I have two hatches that are overlapped. I wanted to convert them to areas and then to eleminte the overlap by adding new feature for the overlapped area (as we do in the topology of the ArcGIS). How this might be accomplished in the FME? Self Duplicates Problem With FME

I am working on Windows 7 (64- Bit). I have two Areas, Area 1 and Area 2 (State 1 and State 2). There is a road crossing through the boundary of the State i.e., horizontal line. So, horizantal line is both, the boundary of the state and the road. Both areas (states), have there specific Postal codes (PC). So, the problem is- At times (not always), Area 1 shows the Postal Code of Area 2 or/and vice-versa. (Vertical Line and Horizontal line). Basically, it depends on the start point. The road fetches postal codes and state names automatically from the area from where the digitization was started, disregarding of the location of the state. For its solution i created the centroid of the road network segments, but it is creating points outside the road network. Any other solutions for this in FME.

How to search for readers and writers in the canvas?

There has to be a way, but I can NOT find it. But I have over 500 transformers in my workbench and need to search for readers and writers that appear in the catalog tree on the left. How do i go about doing this? When I do a normal search it just highlights the catalog tree??

Creating 3D-pipes out of polyline-shapes

Hello, I want to create 3D-pipes out of 3D-polyline-shapes. So far I am able to create them by splitting the polylines into Vektors, rotating them, so they all are orientated to the Z-vektor and than create for example a circle, extrude it and rotate that pipe back to the original position. This leads to nice pipes as long as they don't have curves. Because curves leads to spaces between the pipe-segments of one polyline. So my question: Is there a chance to draw that pipe along the whole polyline like the follow-tool in Sketchup for example, so I can get a closed pipe along a polyline?

SQL Server ArcSDE Geodatabase connection error

I'm unable to use an Esri Geodatabase (ArcSDE Geodb) reader to connect to a SQL Server SDE database. The error I receive is: Could not open the Enterprise Geodatabase. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147215997'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {Version not found ["STATE\\CW0157".sde:DEFAULT]} Please ensure the connection parameters are correct (server=`myhost', instance=`sde:sqlserver:myhost\\myinstance', user=`STATE\\cw0157', password=`***', database=`NHD', version=`sde:DEFAULT') I can successfully connect with these parameters in ArcGIS Desktop and can even use the Microsoft SQL Server Spatial Reader to connect (but connecting this way isn't ideal because of other issues). Any idea if this is an FME issue or SQL Server issue? Thanks, Michael

Errors with the MultiLayerAreaGeneralizer transformer

Hi, I am using the MultiLayerAreaGeneralizer transformer available on FME Store (http://fmestore.safe.com/transformers/MultiLayerAreaGeneralizer.htm) and got mismatch attributes with geometric features in output. Many features have mixed their attributes inside the same layer. Attributes are not mixed between layers. Am I the only one to experience these errors? Does anybody could help to identify the cause and a possible workaround? Thanks a lot!

Vincenty's formula inverse

Hi I seeking a way on how to use the Vincenty's inverse formula (or any other solution) within FME. I got several hundreds of ascii files of sub bottom seismic data that i need to process. Each file can contain many millions of rows, i.e. points. The vast amount of data requires the solution to be non-geographical, only to be solved with mathematics. What I need to do is to calculate and check the distances between point locations (the rows) as well as compare height differences (z) between the pairs; Row2 to Row1 Row3 to Row2 ... Row(n) to Row(n-1) I cannot find a way on how to first store one row in memory and then compare it with a previous row. If the difference in height or length is too far off I need to mathematically give Row(n) a new position based on the first and shot point index Any suggestions on how to get around this problem is most appreciated

ftp download that checks for new data

I have a batch written in python that logs into a ftp site, checks a directory for a file, validates whether the date is newer than the last newest file (for which it downloaded the zipped shapefiles) and then downloads the zip if it is new, otherwise it sends a logfile, exits and waits for another day. I'd like to redo the python batch into FME. I know I can add my ftp paramaters in the Add Source Data in FME, but is there a way to check whether the data is new (has not been added before) and if so download it, unzip it, read the files and update the geodatabase, otherwise exit and send a log file. The ftp features are "undocumented according to the documentation" (ironic) in transformers like HTTP Fetcher, so not sure if that is the approach or just a simple workbench with the ftp coordinates in the add data parameters with some attached voodo. I'm sure someone out there does the same thing and has some code to share... pretty please. thx G.

Is it possible to set a Mapinfo file as 'read only' on the writer?

Sorry if it's a simple question, but is it possible to specify that a Mapinfo file written from FME is 'read only' in the parameters? Thanks in advance

Transforms: Scaler y CoordinateSystemSetter

Hello, I have some small questions: 1 - If I use a transformer "Scaler" and another "CoordinateSystemSetter". Is there a difference in behavior depending on the order?. I mean, is it important which placed first and which second? 2 - I want to transform data from a data base Smallworld PostGIS data base. the first is in centimeters, and the second is in meters. Is it necessary to use a "Scaler" or "CoordinateSystem" transforms? 3 - Is it possible that the same template to work on a version of Smallworld data base and not work on another version of the same database? thank you very much regards Luis

.gfo format Plugin

Hi All, Quick question, I've some data in .gfo format. I understand a plugin is required to read this data in FME? Has anyone managed to read .gfo data into FME? And if so, can anyone advise if this plugin is freely available or should I be better trying to request some onformation on it from Safe? Google searches have proved futile so far! Thanks, Tony
