Hi,

Can anyone help me read and write an XML file to SHPs? I've already managed to read it, but then I have to map everything myself, but I've found XSD schemas. I should use two, but I can't get it to work.

According to Copilot, FME 2025.1 no longer supports XSD schemas, but they don't really offer me an alternative either. Nothing they suggest works or is correct.

So I think I'm better off with your expertise than with AI :-)

A good starting point would be using the Generate Workspace functionality. Depending on your version, will depend what menu it is under (either File or Build), alternatively the keyboard Shortcut is Ctrl+G.

This will bring up a short wizard that asks you to specify your input data, and then specify the output format and location.

Unfortunately, this gives an error. Or maybe I have the parameters wrong. But I have already managed to read it in and also to write it away, but I want to use the xsd schemas.

Apparently, it's because it's an INSPIRE-based XML. I also need two XSD schemas. I would then have to read it in as a GML. I can load it and save it as a shapefile, but I have to do all the intermediate steps manually. I can't seem to use those XSDs. I'm going to give up for now because I've already spent too much time on it.

Hi @nath,

FME has a dedicated Inspire reader (https://docs.safe.com/fme/html/FME-Form-Documentation/FME-ReadersWriters/inspire/inspire.htm?Highlight=Inspire). Is this reader able to read your XML data?
