I’m trying to view my DXF file using FME Data Inspector and it is taking a very long time to load the file for viewing.

Why is it so slow? How can I make FME display my DXF file faster?

Sounds like reading in your DXF file in Data Inspector is not very fast! We found that this occurs if the file has been compressed by Windows.

This can be solved by disabling Windows compression for that specific file/folder/drive. You can confirm this by right-clicking on your DXF file > Properties > Details tab and look at the “Attributes” property. If you see "AC" that means the file is compressed and this is the cause of the slow-down.

To fix this, in the Properties dialogs go to the General tab, Attributes section > click “Advanced…” button, and unclench “Compress contents to save disk space”

When you OK out of both dialogs and re-open the Properties > Details tab, you will see the “Attributes” property as “A” only.

Your DXF file should now load much faster in Data Inspector!
