We use a lot of point clouds, a few here and there for GIS/Civil application. Our more common usage are using land laser scan in big existing plants (brown field,) place them as reference in our CAD software to do the CAD design of existing structures, equipment, etc. We then redraw what is exiting on top of the point clouds.
We can have hundreds of designers and engineers spending time re-drawing the objects on top of reference point clouds.
If we could recreate surfaces of structures and equipment, to recreate the shape of walls, beams, piping, etc. That could save use an enormous amount of time (and money)
We do have many Point clouds management software and add-ons for CAD, but always look for alternate solutions; does anyone found ways of recreating thos type of shapes efficiently from Point cloud using FME?
