Question

Problem opening large MS Excel file in FME

I have a fairly large *.xlsx Excel file (27 MB), when I attempt to open this in an FME Desktop reader, upon selecting the "parameters" button or pressing "OK" the application crashes.

If I re save the file as a *.xls file, this removes data and re-saving as an xlsx file doesn't achieve anything either.

Any Ideas?

A quick fix might be to export it as a CSV from Excel and read that in to FME.

.xls has the negative side-effect of being limited to a max of 65536 rows so that's probably not enough.

I do think it would be a good idea to send the file in to Safe's support, maybe they can figure out why it's crashing FME.
