search bar in Forums

Have you tried the little magnifying glass at the top right?

And on the main page, there’s a search bar right at the top, below the word Community.

Never really understood why there is so much empty space at the top of these pages, on mobile devices you have to scroll down at least a full screen, but maybe that’s why you missed these options?

I also get good results when using Google by appending ‘FME Community’ onto the end of my search query

I have been trying it for some time this afternoon.  When I click on it, the entire page goes somewhat dim, as if something was about to pop-up over top of it, but no search bar or dialog or field ever appears.  I thought my ad-blocker might be to blame but turning that off made no difference.  I only discovered this thread by chance.  I’m about to give up and fall back on search engines.

Is anybody else experiencing anything like this?

Clicked, the search bar overlaps the forum ‘tabs’.

This is in Chrome. 

I always preferred to use Google to find stuff, nowadays I use copilot, that doesnt return me adds.

Firefox and Edge here, exactly the same.

I’m using Edge (ver 142.0... in case you need it).

If I click on that blank space between the notification icon and the FME Community logo, what I see reverts back to the “before” screenshot.

I’ve found that Google is pretty quick (and good) at indexing the community. I’ll often perform a search and append ‘fme community’ to the end

I have had this happen once before, maybe some time last year while using Firefox. I believe the issue was a privacy related setting in firefox relating to some js that was trying to run when you click the button but it was a while ago so I do not remember the exact setting. An update to firefox fixed the issue. Have you tried using a different browser?

Good idea!  I tried it using Firefox on my phone and the search bar worked fine.  Unfortunately for me, Edge is all that’s allowed on my work machine at the moment.

So press F12, then click on the magnifying glass icon, and check the console. It will probably show something that might help identify the problem.

Which may mean you’ll have to ask your IT department to give access to something that is blocked now, seeing as you’re talking about a corporate environment...

​@michael_m  Did you get a chance to check the console? Clear the console, then click on the search button to see if anything appears. I tested it on Edge 138.0.3351.77 and 142.0.3595.90 without any loading issues.

I can’t see the search bar on my work computer in any browser. THis is a huge pain, please fix it.

​@LizAtSafe I have not checked the console, but for whatever reason I am able to see the search bar again.  Edge has updated to 143.0.3650.96.

​@smclaugh1 Are you able to use the search on https://community.safe.com/p/search ? I’d like to rule out if it’s a browser issue or a firewall issue blocking our search engine. 

I think it’s a filewall/rule issue.

I have tried to reply to LizAtSafe twice in the past couple of days but the posts are not showing up for some reason.

I am able to see the search bar in Edge on my work computer now.  The version I’m on is 143.0.something.  I never requested any firewall exceptions or anything like that, it just started working.

​@smclaugh1 I’ve asked our web development team which specific URLs to whitelist to allow our search engine to work for you. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back. 

​@michael_m Glad to know it’s working again! We haven’t changed anything over the past month, so it might have been a issue with the platform. If it comes up again, please let us know.

If whitelisting still doesn’t solve the issue, can you please open a support ticket so we can investigate further.
