I have a simple FME Flow automation:

Trigger → Run workspace (generates excel report) → Emailer

Generated excel doc has dynamic name with the date: Reprot_YYYYMMDD.xlsx

I know how to email attachment with the stable name but can’t find the way to attach document that always has different name. Because in Action block and in Emailer block0 I need to specify Destination Microsoft Excel File and Email Attachment.

Could you please advise if this is possible and how. Thanks!

FME Flow version 2025.

If you add an automations writer to your workspace, you can send the name of the generated excel file to the automations writer. Then you will have the name available to you to use in the emailer.

Hi @marias, thanks for your post! @ebygomm’s approach is the one I’d recommend, here are full instructions:

  1. Write out the Excel file to FME_SHAREDRESOURCE_TEMP. I used the @DateTimeNow() function to quickly test dynamic file naming.
    ?name=image.png
  2. Use an AttributeKeeper to retain just the _dataset attribute.
  3. Use an Automations Writer to pass this to Flow.
  4. Create an automation similar to the one below. In the Email action, reference the parameter here:
    ?name=image.png
