Hi everyone,
I am working on an integration where users should be able to push an AutoCAD DWG directly to Autodesk Forma.
The current setup is:
AutoCAD
↓
REST API call
↓
FME Flow
↓
FME workspace
↓
Autodesk Docs / FormaThe REST call starts an FME workspace on FME Flow and passes the DWG file as a parameter. The FME workspace then processes the DWG and uses the Autodesk Docs (safe.autodesk-docs) Web Connection together with the AutodeskDocsConnector to upload the resulting file to Forma.
This part is already working.
What I would like to achieve
The important requirement is that the file should be pushed to Forma using the identity of the AutoCAD user.
For example:
John opens AutoCAD
↓
Clicks "Push to Forma"
↓
REST call starts FME Flow workspace
↓
Autodesk upload
↓
Forma shows John as the user who performed the actionAnd similarly:
Sarah → Push to Forma → Forma shows Sarah
John → Push to Forma → Forma shows JohnCurrent authentication setup
At the moment, the Autodesk authentication is handled through an FME Flow Web Connection using Autodesk Docs OAuth.
This works, but it appears that the Autodesk identity is tied to the Web Connection that is being used.
For example, I can create:
John - Autodesk Docs
Sarah - Autodesk Docsand select the appropriate Web Connection through a published AUTODESK_CONNECTION parameter.
However, I would prefer not to create a separate Autodesk Web Connection for every user.
What I am looking for
Is there a way to authenticate the AutoCAD user directly, and then pass that user's Autodesk identity/token through the REST workflow so that FME Flow can upload the file to Forma on behalf of that user?
Ideally:
AutoCAD user authentication
↓
REST API
↓
FME Flow
↓
Autodesk OAuth / Autodesk Docs API
↓
Formarather than:
AutoCAD user
↓
FME Flow
↓
Personal FME Web Connection for every user
↓
Autodesk
Has anyone implemented a similar workflow, where an AutoCAD user authenticates once and the resulting Autodesk identity is used by an FME Flow process to upload to Forma without creating a separate Web Connection for every user?
Any guidance on the recommended architecture would be greatly appreciated.
