IMAP EMail: STARTTLS required but not supported by server.

I recently started receiving this error after things likely changed on the back end due to company restructuring. Has anyone received this error and been able to explain what might fix it, to the Exchange Admin people?

Hi @marksedgwick,

There are two things that I can see that may be causing this issue 1) Do you have a version of FME Server pre-2015. StartTLS configuration was added then. 2) Do you have a SSL set up and are you using a self signed certificate? Self signed certificates can cause issues with the Exchange service. In later versions of FME you can turn off the SSL for your specific IMAP Service in your Publication settings.

I have 2 servers that are currently both not working with the same error.

The current PROD is FME 2016.1.1 was working, but stopped. The settings are:

Protocol: Email (IMAP)

IMAP Server Host: gtnapezwex001.gtna.gt.ds

IMAP Server Port: 143

IMAP Email Account: gisnow

Connection Security: StartTLS

Verify SSL Certificate: No

The current DEV is FME 2017.1.2 with the same settings and getting the same error.

Have you asked your exchange admin people if the settings on your account are ok to use on FME Server?

 

I know that we use google, so with 2 factor authentication it doesn't work, and I have to open up all the settings to allow things to use my email account, which your exchange admin people may have restricted.

 

 

Can you get it working with a personal account?

These exact settings were working, but stopped. I am trying to locate my "exchange admin people", but Enbridge recently moved all support to offshore Accenture and I am finding that task quite difficult. :-)

I spoke to our development today who confirmed that this message is coming from your email server.

 

I would ensure that you have all of the correct settings from them to work on getting FME Server the correct connection details.
