I remember back in 2021 when this happened, someone from Safe was able to point me to where the “recover” file was saved. Please help me again as i have created a very robust workspace but have not saved it and it would take me 3 hrs to recreate this workspace

Hello @tnarladni

By default, recovery files are saved in the location specified in a user’s TEMP environment variable on Windows--usually %appdata%\AppData\Local\Temp\. If FME_TEMP is set, you can also look in that folder.

Look for any files beginning "wb", especially “wb-xlate” and “wb_recov”. Change the file extension to .fmw and try opening in Workbench.

I hope this information helps.

The “.recover” file is just a text file, you can edit it in notepad to see the folder where the wb backup is saved to. But if the workbench was never saved, I’m not sure if you’ll have a recover.

Somebody once taught me the “cool-save” rule: as soon as you think “cool” hit save. Make it a Pavlovian reaction to hit ctrl-s
