I second david_r reply.

We have been working with FME for the past year in a Windows Server 2012 VM with no problems.

We run all our FME training courses on Amazon virtual machines without much problem (where there are issues, it is usually the student's IT department blocking the port number they need to connect).

Also all our automated product testing occurs on virtual machines and we have lots of VMs set up for the support team so they can try FME using a customer's exact setup.

So we at Safe use them a lot and no problems occur.
