The question is in the title.
Which is the best linux distribution recommanded for FME applications?
I heard good things about Debian and OpenSuse. What is your opinion about that?

For what it's worth, Safe recommends Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
There are a couple of other distributions listed on http://www.safe.com/fme/fme-desktop/tech-specs/, including Debian. OpenSuse isn't listed, though.

Thanks for your answer. I didn't find that link.
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS works really well. However support for 16.04 LTS will come with FME 2017. See link - https://knowledge.safe.com/questions/33517/fme-on-ubuntu-1604-install.html

Hello @david_r, Im just looking for installation packages of FME Desktop/Server for Linux - could You please tell me why Safe soft prefer Ubuntu to RedHat, CentOS? Because Ubuntu is shown as recommended distribution.
Thanks!

Sorry, I have no insider information for why that is. Perhaps Safe support can help.

I am an FME user, not affiliated with Safe — just my two cents.
There are around 600 Linux distros to-date, supporting all of them is out of this world for any software. In the desktop world, Ubuntu is the most popular distro and is backed by a healthy ecosystem with a thriving community and a supportive organization. On the server-side, Redhat/Centos takes the lion share of the enterprise market.
We have been primarily using Ubuntu desktop and servers in our shop for almost eight years and FME works great on Ubuntu.
