Patching our backend oracle database should the FME server be stopped while the update occurs?

We have to update our FME Server Backend database, do i need to stop the fme server while the backend is offline?

Depending on usage, you might be fine (thats a judgement for you to make). But i'd go down the route of stopping it as users won't be able to login while the DB is down.
