Hundreds of members from around the world shared their perspectives, revealing an engaged and knowledgeable user base that continues to grow.
Nearly 98% of respondents are registered members, and over 70% visit weekly or monthly. The Forums, Knowledge Base, and FME Academy remain the most-used areas, highlighting the community’s strong focus on learning, collaboration, and problem-solving.
User Demographics
Most respondents have been active for several years:
- 2-5 years: 27.85%
- 5-10 years: 24.05%
- 10+ years: 16.46%
More than a quarter of members are newcomers (under two years), showing steady community growth.
Motivations for Joining
Users join the community for six main reasons:
- Seeking Help and Problem-Solving - Finding answers to workspace or transformer challenges.
- Learning and Skill Development - Gaining new skills, pursuing certification, and learning best practices.
- Knowledge Sharing - Helping others and contributing insights.
- Access to Ideas and Innovation - Submitting ideas and learning about new features.
- Networking and Connection - Meeting peers, sharing experiences, and collaborating.
- Career Support - Using the community as a professional resource or to grow into an FME expert role.
Key Takeaway: Members come to learn and solve problems, and many stay to give back, fostering a cycle of collaboration and shared expertise.
Engagement
Engagement remains strong:
- Weekly visitors: 39.24%
- Monthly visitors: 32.07%
- Top areas: Forums (76.79%), Knowledge Base (68.78%), FME Academy (54.85%).
Most members stay informed through email notifications and regular visits. Learning from others (79.75%) and getting help with specific challenges (75.53%) continue to be the main motivators for participation.
Benefits
The FME Community has a clear professional impact:
- 67% agree it has helped them advance professionally.
- 78% find it easy to locate information.
The community remains a trusted resource for growth and connection.

When asked how they’d describe the community, respondents emphasized five themes:

Most users are happy with the community, but several key opportunities for improvement stand out:
- Search & Navigation - Better filtering, organization, and access to archived content.
- Documentation Integration - More how-to guides, tutorials, and real-world examples
- Engagement - More workshops, virtual meetups, and contributor recognition. Members love interactive activities like FME Bingo and The 12 Days of FME, and many asked for more of them.
- AI Enhancements - Smarter search and answer relevance.
- Minor Suggestions - Fun events, better onboarding, and a return of classic resources like the Transformer Guide PDF.
- Overall Insight: The community is thriving, the focus now is on discoverability, interactivity, and even more tailored learning. Users value a balance of technical learning, collaboration, and community fun - and want more of it!
