AreaOnAreaOverlay not working as expected

Hello,  I'm trying to calculate the amount of overlays of features in a geodatabase. Im using the AreaOnAreaOverlay transformer for this. However, what comes out of the transformer is quite strange. The amount of input features is 13, yet, the _overlays attribute gives values upto 24. Additionally, it fills in gaps (holes) that aren't part of the shape but are surrounded by the shape.   In the attached file I provided the workspace and files I'm working with.  ftp://ftp.safe.com/incoming/FME_AOA_error.zip  I would really appreciate the assistance, I don't quite understand how this is happening.

Gedatabase Version

Please help, How can I create a Geodatabase in Workbench, if I have the computer installed ArcGIS 10 and Fme12, considering that in the Help says that I  need to have ArcGIS 9 version.?  Another question, how can I save Workbench that I did in Version FME 2012 at downgrade FME2010 example? Is this possible?

Attribute Filter

Something silly, I know, but has me stumped ...  I have a dataset with fishing activities, which I want to filter according to the FishingType, and Species caught  I'm going to run two sequential Attribute Filters e.g. FishingType = 1 and Species = scallops  I import the possible attribute values for each of the attributes, I have 10 FishingTypes and 20 species ....  But I'm getting no attributes being filtered on the FishingType - they all go through the UnFiltered port  Species works no problem ....  Can you filter by a "decimal" Attribute Type or does it have to be a character$   ?  Thanks,  Bruce

XMLTemplater

Hi All,  I'm trying to use the XMLTemplater to create an XML doc from database table. I'm trying to generate the template using an XSD that I know is valid.  Workbench keeps choking on specific elements I suspect because there is an 'xsd:import' pointing to a remote document. Does anyone have any experiene with this?  Thanks!

transfer AutoCAD mtext-rotation to SQLite

Hello community!  I tried several times to get mtexts of a dwg into sqlite without success. the mtext-entities are represented as points in sqlite, transferring text-string and text-rotation as attributes of these points. text-string as well as other stuff (height etc.) can be exported without any problems, but with rotations i never had any success. i tried "autocad_text_rotation" as well as "autocad_rotation" as well as "fme_rotation" but always gives a "0" as result in sqlite. datatype of rotations in dwg is always "number, 31,15". I tried using "decimal, 31,15" for the sqlite, but it says in the log, fme can only create "decimal, 29,15" datatype in sqlite.  What's the problem? Why can't i use the dwg-mtext-rotation? thx for any help, best regards from switzerland.

Schema Mapper bug?

Dear all,  I'm wondering if I have misunderstood the SchemaMapper transformer of if it has a bug.  I'm using it to map any attribute names in a list to another name. However, the Schema Mapper creates every single attribute in this mapping list.... Which I don't want. I just want a mapping.  The FME Desktop version I use is 2012 SP4 Build 12266 for WIN32 and the Action I selected in the transformer is 'Map Attributes'.  The following seems to indicate that it is not supposed to create new attributes:  " when FME finds an attribute whose name is defined in the SourceAttribute column of my CSV file, then it renames it to the name in the corresponding DestinationAttribute column. In this example. if FME finds an attribute called “class” then it gets renamed to “Klasse”" (http://evangelism.safe.com/fmeevangelist41/)  Thanks in advance,  Maryse

Obtain Lod2 building starting from lod1

Hello all, I'm doing some enrichment on the cityGml automatically generated model of my city for a european proj called I-scope. At this moment I have only buildings geometries and i'm trying to texturize the model. I encountered some problems, expecially for Lod1 Building: I found the way to distinguish between flat and vertical features after a deaggregator and to rewrite the model as composed only of Lod2 buidings with separated surfaces. What I want to do now is to recognize the roofsurfaces(flat) from the ground surfaces. I tried a lot of possible transfomer but not encountered yet the way to compare the surfaces in an appropiate way. I need a way to find the max Z value between features with the same parentID an to split the output in ground and roof surfaces.                 Sorry for my bad english and thanks in advance, Marco

Identifying long, narrow polygons with FME

I'm not an FME wiz so I tought I'd ask you guys:  I have extracted a number of holes in a layer of agriculture fields to find barrows (round features) that are located in the fields. But the layer also includes irrication canals. Is there any way that I can identify these long, narrow features so that I can delete them? They have more or less the same area as the barrows.    Do you have any tips?

Plotting points along linestrings at variable intervals

Hi,  I'm trying to replicate a function in ArcGIS (Make Route Event Layer) in FME.  I have a series of polylines in a shape file, each with a unique identifying code, (e.g. DH, CL, etc.).  I have a spreadsheet with a list of features I want to show as points along the line strings as defined by a meterage value from the start of the line,   e.g. Identifier (DH) & Meterage (15) - I want the dot to the plotted (with the relevant attributes) 15m along the line from the start of the line DH.  I can see transformers that plot points and split lines but only at specific intervals, not at attribute specified intervals.  Thanks.  Amit

Hello,  I need a transform that dish points to where a line intersects a polygon. I have entered Résaux road and a municipality. J'besoin the intersection. What trasformer can do this please? (FME 2010 FGDB and / or. SHP as the format.)

Published parameters - prompt user during runtime

Hi!  Is there a way to use published parameters to prompt a user for input values during runtime?  In the workspace I have some attribute values from the reader (GDB) that has to be changed manually. I want to use a tester, where features going through the Failed port will be displayed for the user, be able to change them and then continue to run the workspace.  There are probably other ways around this, but my experience with FME is limited.   Any suggestions on how this could be done?

Hi All,   We have a problem in getting to view the 3D data loaded to Oracle spatial (data is of buildings) loaded with the schema (3DCityDB-2.0.6 | 3D-Geo-Database for CityGML). Can someone suggest how and which parameters to be used in universal viewer.

Grid conversion between British and Irish Grid?

Hi there,  I've recently purchased some data from the Irish Ordnance Survey (.dtm format) which is supplied on the Irish Grid. I would like to convert this data to British Grid for use with other data I already have.  When I purchased this Irish data I was recommended FME software, which I must admit I'd never heard of before, but working regularly with mapping and terrain data it's something I'm really interested in.  I downloaded the trial version to have a look at the software's capabilities, but can't seem to figure out a way to do convert this data? Any help or advice would be much appreciated, I am at a loss!   I've tried to contact FME for both technical support and a personalised demonstration, but to no avail as yet.

fme 2013 beta and attributeValueMapper

I've had great succes in FME  2012 using attributeValueMapper. In 2013 beta I find it completely bogus - whatever I do the values are mapped from null to null, including the  "default value" field.   Opening a workspace created with 2012  and inspecting it I see that my mapping are replaced with null to null relations.   This probably means I'll have to revert back to 2012, just as I was starting to appreciating some of the new shiny things of the 2013 beta... :(   Or is it some new functionality / logic / whatever that I get wrong?

SQL Connection Problem

I have an automated nightly process that runs and outputs several tables to SQL Server 2008.  This week we have had intermitten issues with connecting to SQL server.  One night it failed and the next it worke and then again it failed.  It is giving me an warning message of:    MS SQL Server: Connection not properly cleaned up, please contact support@safe.com. Connection key '1_|_3_|_TABLENAME_|_DATABASENAME_|_<unused>_|  I am looking for any insight of what might be causing this.  Is it an FME issue or a SQL DB issue.  I am running FME 2012 SP2 Build 12235 WIN32.  Thanks Travis

"Star" or Save a discussion

It would be nice to be able to "Star" or "Save" discussions (like Gmail). So you can have a list of all "Starred" Discussions for the future. In that way you can easily find the discussions you want to follow.

Testing for multiple input files

What is the best way to test for multiple input files on a single reader?  I have a workflow where the input is one or more files and the output filename will be based on the input filename if there is only one file but a constant if there are multiple files.  Joanna

Convert multiple points with the same geometry to single point containing all attributes

Hi all,  I have a point dataset that in some cases contains multiple points in the same location. In those cases only , I would like to do two things: 1. merge the points in to a single point and 2. join the attributes of all the merged points and assign them to the attribute table of the single point (denormalize the data).   The reason I am doing this is because I would like to add labels to the points in ArcMap 10.0 but Maplex does not have a clean way to label multiple points with the same geometry so I figure that if the data was denormalized I could then create a label that ecompasses many fields but that stacks them neatly.  Thank you very much in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Get fieldname from table to use in transformer

I would like to get a  fieldname from a lookup table to use in transformer. I have an oracle table that I use for exporting data from SDE to dgn that holds things like igds_text_size, igds_cell_name etc. I use feauremerger with the layernames to match it to the layers to give all the features in a layer a standard set of values. This allows the attributes to be easily set and stored in an oracle table.  The  problem I run up against is I can't figure out how to set up which field to use for the text label. I have a field call TEXT_FIELD and I want each layer to use a different field from it's table as the label field.  I want to use labelPointReplacer to look at the table and use the field of the value in the TEXT_FIELD.  So for example for the layer address points I want it to use the field ADDRESS_LABEL and for Roads I want it to use the field STREET. I have those listed in the TEXT_FIELD but it just labels them with the text "STREET" and "ADDRESS_LABEL"

Attributing my records with a folder name and file create date

My shp are grouped into folders and I'd like to use the folder name (no spaces) and the date file created of the SHPs in my attribute table.  I have about 50 group folders and an average of 1-50 shps per folder.  I'm trying to write my output into one feature class inside a file geodatabase.  I have already used schema reader to handle the multiple folders and mutiple shps, I can;t figure out how to use the directory and file path reader.  Also is there a way to connect multiple feature types into one writer. The total number of feature types that are read by the Feature reader is almost 1,500 shapefiles.

ArcSDE long string

Hi!  I'm reading ArcSDE tables with FME Desktop 2012 SP4. One table has a column, type of which is string with width over 1000 000 000. The type of the same column in Oracle is NCLOB with width of 3000.  When reading the table with ArcSDE Reader, FME doesn't recognize the column at all. FME gives a warning saying that the column is not recognizable. Is it because of the width of the column in ArcSDE? Is there any way to read a column of such a type?

Weird SchemaMapper behavior

So I am using the schemamapper to batch map attributes from one format to another using a CSV. In the CreateAttributeMap screen I have it set remove the source attribute. When I run my features through, it appears that all the attributes in the CSV are being assigned to every feature regardless if they exist on the source and attaches them to the output feature as an empty attribute (which is why in my last post I asked about removing all empty attributes).  Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is there a setting in the schemamapper that tells it to only map attributes that exist on the source?  Using FME 2013 x86 b13187  Thanks, Sean

Exposing Smallworld Attributes that FME Doesn't Recognize

Using FME 2012 and Smallworld 4.1, is there a way to get an attribute exposed when FME seems to ignore it?  Specifically, most of my Smallworld Objects have a "Remarks" field.  When using FME workbench to import or export Smallworld objects, this field is completely ignored.  I was hoping to find a way to expose what this field is called in smallworld language so I can write to it, or expose it so it exports.

Finding missing features after generalisation

I have two data sets: the original data set, and one I have generalised. The generalised one has some features removed that I want to add back in so I was trying to use DuplicateRemover to find the unique features. I cannot see any other way to find the missing features. When I try to add the two sorted data sets to the input of the DuplicateRemover I guess it is arbitrary which features are processed first.  Is there a way to indicate which features should be processed first so I get the generalised features and the missing features out?  Is there another way to do what I am trying to do?
