Great! Multiple Feature Attribute Support in AttributeCreator FME 2013 SP2

Hi all,   When I was surfing the FME Evangelist, a nice idea flashed in my mind. That is a practical usage of "Multiple Feature Attribute Support" functionality of the AttributeCreator in FME 2013 SP2. See this Q&A: Plotting xy in series. I didn't think there are more effective solutions than VariableSetter + VariableRetriever or Python script. But now, I know that only one AttributeCreator solve it elegantly.  I'll share this with you!          Calculate 'X' value:      Calculate 'Y' value:      Takashi

Scheduling jobs on FME Server

Hallo all,  I am new to FME server so any help would be appreciated. I have 2 ws that I want to run after each other. My intention is to schedule them with an hour in between. Following the documentation I am able to schedule the ws's, however the jobs only run when I schedule it as start date> immediatly and not on a repeat> interval based. Both ws's run when manually started on the Server.  Any ideas? Itay

Issues with the FeatureMerger FME2013 SP2

Dear All,   I've encountered an oddity with the new Feature Merger in FME 2013 SP2. I could solve it by using the old one (copy it from an older workbench), however.   I'm am very sure that I don't have duplicate suppliers, since the supplier join attribute is a primary key in the Oracle database (select alias,count(alias) from st_cd_b group by alias having count(alias) > 1;  --> returns no records).  However, with the new Feature merger, suppliers that do not find a match for the requester, sort at the Duplicate Supplier Port. SchemaMapper problem: multiple features mapping (coming from the same .gdb reader) using the same schema, in the same fme project

Hi all,  I've got a problem with schemamapper.  It works perfectly if I use one feature from the reader (.gdb file) to one (or more) features to a writer (a different .gdb file).  Instead, It doesn't work (passes only one feature class from the reader!) if I use the same schemamapper using multiple reader's features.  These are my questions:  1) What's wrong?I tried both an excel file and an access table for my schemamapper...they both include fields "new filter" (field1, value1... from reader) and "new attribute" (field2, value2).  2) Do I really have to split all my "mapping" to different .xls (or .mdb, or .csv ) each one for each reader's feature class??  3) How can I set the same flow to UPDATE the writer?  Thanks in advance  Paolo

TestFilter

Hi, I've a feature that contains 100 regions and i'd like to get shp file writer for each region. I use TestFilter transformer to do it but i must set TestCondition 100 times (If @Value(regionId)=1 else if If @Value(regionId)=2 else if ....). Is there other solution ? Thanks an advance. Farfar

"Cartographic Rendering Tricks"

Quite some time ago I asked about styling vector map local/ district with FME, since then it's been put aside cause we've had numerous other things to get done.    However I'm back at it, and I found the video done by Dotted Eyes "Cartographic Rendering Tricks with VectorMap Local"    On the AreaSymbolizer custom transformer, he (presumably) draws symbols using the information contained in the (in the example) 10k style, but it's very much a "and then magic happens" explination.    I know what i want to do, and roughly how do to it; Read the xml in -> create the symbol -> pass the symbol to the SymbolFiller custom transformer    However, I have no idea how to make FME do that. Any pointers would be greatly apprechiated    Thanks in advance    Rhodri

GeometryValidator

In FME 2013, there is a 'REPAIRED' port on the GeometryValidator transformer.  In FME 2012 there is not.  Has anyone built a 2012 workspace that attempts to repair FAILED port features?  Can you share advice/guidance?  Thanks

Measuring the distance from a point to a line

Hello,  I have a dataset (many datasets) that have a single line (of arbitrary orientation) and a large number of points.  I wish to add the perpindicular distance to the line as an attribute to each of the points.  This seems like a simple GIS question with an easy answer ... but I can't find it.  The closest I have come is the NeighborFinder, but if I use the points as bases, and the line as a candidate, it appears to measure the distance to an endpoint of the line, not the closest point.  The NeighborFinder works properly if I use the line as the base and the points as candidates, but then it only finds one point and the attribute is added to the line, and I need it the other way around.  Is there a simple way to do this, or do I need to do the geometric math myself and just calculate the distance with an arbitrary formula?

Scan folder before starting workbench traitment

Hi, I use schedules to launch my workbench every x minute. my workbench starts by reading shp files into my folder. I have a problem if there are no file in folder, the job starts and i get errors with no files. I look for a solution to test if my folder contains files and continuous traitment of workbench.  I try with python script but i can't. Any help? Thanks

empty geometry field

Hi all,  This is the issue: I have an Oracle spatial (point) table where at least one record has an empty geometry field. The field isn't null, it's completely empty. This record caused my initial workbench to crash with an spatial index creation error.  I identified the offending table and started analyzing the table starting with a workbench containg only the table (using an Oracle spatial reader) and an inspector. That one gave this error:  An error occurred converting an Oracle OCINumber object to an integer: `OCI-22060: argument [2] is an invalid or uninitialized number'. (serverType=`ORACLE8i', serverName=`pkgnnat', userName=`KGNAT_HAVL', password=`***', dbname=`') Error converting Oracle Spatial object geometry type to an integer: message was `An error occurred converting an Oracle OCINumber object to an integer: `OCI-22060: argument [2] is an invalid or uninitialized number'. Line Direction

We have a need to determine the direction in which a line is drawn.  This is importand because some of our line features are custom line styles that when drawn on a map signify certain attributes.  As an example the symbols for Cliffs, Rocks and Depression Contours indicate the low side (elevation) of the terrain.  Each of these features have certain rules pertaining to how they are to be drawn (west to east, clockwise etc).  Is there a transformer or FME attribute that can help us determine if the feature is drawn correctly?   Cheers,  Russell

I was watching a demo and noticed what I think is a transformer named TCLEmailer that appears to enable you to send emails from FME Desktop. I am not able to find it in Desktop. Does anyone know anything about it?

Sleep in FME?

Can you pause execution (sleep) in FME? I am using the HTTPFetcher to send an address to Google to get back geocoded XML and extracting lat and lng. I find that some of the lat lngs are blank; however, when I examine those that are blank and send  the url directly to Google through the browser, I always get back the correct XML.  I'm thinking that because the HTTP fetch is inconsistent in the time it takes, something gets overwritten. I also did geocoding with Google using Python, and put in a sleep for two seconds. A sleep in FME might help.  By the way, I used the Gisgraphy geocode service in FME and found that it gave incorrect results. That's why I'm using Google.  Thanks

FeatureMerger - not possible to use list element?

I'd like to use the FeatureMerger with the first element of a list as the Requestor Join Attribute. Unlike with most other transformers it doesn't appear to be possible to do this.  Expected behaviour or a bug (or user error?)

Inlinequerier UTF-8 vs UTF-16

Hi!  I am using the InlineQuerier with two features and a join.  Feature1 MyAttribute (utf-8) = M12038  Feature2 MyAttribute (utf-16) = M12038  Does the InlineQuerier handle these differences? And if not, how do I force "everything" to be in utf-8?

How does UpdateDetector compare different representations of the same whole number?

I have a dataset that I am exporting to a different format. In particular I have some doubles that are being converted to decimal 15.8 and decimal 10.4. Right before the export I am rounding these values to the nearest 8th or 4th digit.  I am using UpdateDetector to help confirm I am doing the export correctly. I've noticed that when I compare the original and exported values UpdateDetector considers any whole numbers to have changed.  I tried rounding both datasets before the comparison. It didn't make a difference. UpdateDetector still says in effect 0.0 <> 0 and 193.0 <> 193.  When I insert an AttributeCreator and explicitly set the attributes to the expected value (e.g. to 0 or 193) UpdateDetector then says they are the same.  Can you explain to me how AttributeRounder, AttributeCreator, and UpdateDetector represent whole numbers so that I can avoid reporting these spurious differences?

Python Module Install

I would like to use the Python adodbapi module in my FME script. I have this module installed on my system, but it is for Python 2.6, which is the version that ArcGIS installs. The FME Python version is 2.7 and when I try to install adodbapi for Python 2.7, the installer says that Python 2.6 is found in the registry and will not install it.  I have also tried changing the Python interpreter in FME to point to the Python 2.6 interpreter that ArcGIS installs, but FME says that this version of the Python interpreter is not supported. I've also tried appending to sys.path and setting the PYTHONPATH, but nothing works. Looks like I need adodbapi for Python 2.7 installed in the folder for FME, which is FME\\fmepython27.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Calling workbenches with large data in FME Server 2013

Hi,    I have two workbenches in FMEServer 2013. First workbench needs to call second workbench by passing a string of 2000-3000 characters and second workbench will receive it as a publish parameter.  I tried with job submitter but it works with only small size values. Please suggest me any solution.  Subrat.

PythonCaller - GoogleGeocoder

Hi All,    I have been playing with the GoogleGeocoder from the FMEpedia and I am  trying to geocode with cryptokey and clientID. All adresse are rejected with error :  "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden".   I think the issu is an PythonCaller to retrieve encodedsignature.!    Any help??? .    Thanks an advance.    regards,

Performance enhancement in sql calls

I am using few sql executors for calling procedure/function, select on multijoin, selecting from dual. For 30 features it takes around 15 seconds. But when it comes to 10000 features , processing takes a lot of time. Is there any way to improve performance? Thanks, Subrat

How to use string padder in FME to specify pad width based on each field value for different field's to have leading spaces ?

Hi All,  I have designed a workbench in which i will pass an input field to StringLengthCalculator transformer and the result is stored in a default attribute (_length). Then, i have passed this (_length attribute) to ExpressionEvaluator  transformer to calculate values based on this formula                                (13 - @value(_length))+ @value(_length) and the resultant value is stored in default attribute (_result) This _result attribute is mapped to pad width parameter of StringPadder transformer and a particular field is selected in it which needs to be updated in target. I can see the trailing spaces on the target field to the left.  But, my main challenge is how to perform this flow on all fields because we cannot give uniform pad width to all fields and pad width shoulddepend on the stringlength of different field values in source table and all the target fields should have different number of trailing spaces based on their source string value.  Kindly provide me

Snap Footprint polygon to building multipatch

I have a set of multipatches that are composed of roofs and walls.  I have derived a footprint polygon which I want to snap to the base of the building multipatches to make them "watertight". The base of each wall is sloping to some varying degree (ie wall ZMin does not necessarily equal the multipatch ZMin).  I can do this in ArcObjects but I can't figure out how to do it in FME (2013 SP2).  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks AlanK

3d PDF zoom issue

I have created a 3d PDF and when i zoom in the background feature obscures the feature. You can see the issue if you look at the Lanai and Molokai in a 3D PDF.pdf located at http://fmepedia.safe.com/servlet/fileField?retURL=%2Farticles%2FSamples_and_Demos%2F3D-Textured-Examples&entityId=ka430000000VbxHAAS&field=Documentation_Link4__Body__s  I'm using Acrobat Reader X.  Additionally i have TerraGo toolbar installed and the Measure Length command is not enables on either the PDF i created or the Lanai PDF.

Number of Combinations

Hi , I have 3 different attributes for buildings (roof type, wall type and age). I want to find the number of building(s) fall into every different combination of roof type, wall type and and age (e.g tile,brick,1980------>20  ). What would be easiest way to do it?  Cheers, Engin
