Splitting a long string to fit into a number of shorter fields

I wanted to split some long strings (loaded from a text file) into shorter fields less than 255 chars. I chose 100 as a reasonable line length. The SubstringExtractor transformer works well, but it requires a whole chain of transformers. I thought I could use the new integrated approach in the AttributeCreator transformer to combine them to create bound0, bound1, ...  bound0 = @Substring(@Value(bound),0,100) bound1 = @Substring(@Value(bound),100,100) .. etc  However TCL  tries to evaluate the resulting string as an expression, it has trouble with "and".   AttributeCreator: Failed to evaluate TCL expression: and along the AttributeCreator: TCL Error Message: invalid bareword "and" in expression "and along the"; should be "$and" or "{and}" or "and(...)" or ...    I don't want it evaluated.  I cannot see a way of escaping the substring.  I have tried enclosing the expression in quotes  \\"@Substring(...)\\"

Invoking a separate workbench from python caller

Sql Executor and Workspace runner

Hi, I got a translation going on with few sql executors and a workspacerunner .A sql executor is placed after Workspace runner as well.Now a strange thing is observed when I set the "wait for job to complete" as yes the oracle procedures are called from executors and are reflected in the table. But when set to no ,none of the procedures seem to work though the log shows them being called . Is this a bug ?

Using FME to update geodatabase metadata

I am trying to figure out how to update the metadata in a ESRI geodatabase. It isn't metadata for a featureclass, but the metadata for the geodatabase as a whole. I'm just not sure which writer/options to use to allow me to update it.

OGCKML - disable coordinate system transformation

Is there anyway to disable the automatic coordinate transformation to LL-WGS84? I am creating kml from csv files derived from Oracle Spatial data in UTM coords. The kml is consumed in an app that overlays it with GeoPDF files also in UTM coords...because of this the kml placemarks are shifted...?   Thanks, Mike

Grid Shift Files

Has anybody had issues with the Reprojector? I'm converting some shapefiles from EPSG:4617 to CANA83-10TM115 into a GeoMedia SQL Server Warehouse.  I'm getting the error   "Reprojection from 'LLCSRS' to 'CANA83-10TM115' requires grid shift file(s) for datum transformation" Reprojector: Could not create reprojection engine    Any thoughts?

split an attribute into numbers and characters

Dear all, starting to really make use of and learning FME and loving it! However I am getting stuck on a seemingly simple task: I have a land title attribute which may look like TP12345 and I need to split it into two new attributes, one with the characters and one the integers (and retain the exising one). Any useful hints are greatly apreciated!

Creating texture atlases for 3D buldings

Hi all,  I've been creating an object with over 1000 3D buildings, but I have over 1000 corresponding textures, wish makes the result hardly importable in 3D softwares. I'd like to create texture atlases so that the size will decrease and I'd be able to load my buildings in any 3D tool (3DS Max, Sketchup, etc). I've searched but couldn't find any way to do so. Is it possible with FME ?...  Thanks for your help.

To simplify the task in FME Work Bench

Hi All, i'm quite new to FME and i have to work with FME Work Bench 2010 to migrate the Landbase data(Map Info TAB files) to Smallworld PNI. I have to migrate the smae set of data to different databases, for this every time i'm performing the same tasks like add the readers and writers, mapping etc. My question is, to avoid this is there any way to create a standard template file so that i have to change only the input file(reader) and output dataset based on the data(writer) or we can automate this process? Please help in this regard. I want to avoid performing same task again and again so that i can save the time. Thanks in advance.

Transform continuous line to dashed with autocad_linetype

Hi,  I'd like transform a fileGDB (polyline) to dwg. My problem is when I try to change the dafault layer linetype (in the dwg writer) from "continuos" to "dashed". If I try to write 'dashed' I get this message:  "Specified lineType 'fme_basicstring:6:dashed' is not defined in mapping file.  Must be defined before it is referenced"  Is there any way to set the default linetype and transform a continuos line to dashed?. I've used 'autocad_linetype' but don't work. I don't see any attribute geodb_ for that neither.  thanks

AutoCAD MText to ArcGIS Annotation

Hello Guys,  I have two problem transforming MText to ArcGIS annotation.  1) I know that those text with multi line uses "\\P" to denote a carriage return.  May I know what, what should I replace "\\P" in StringReplacer?  I have tried "\\n", "\\r" and '&vbCrLf'  but it just merely replace \\P with those charactors.   2) I notice some of the text has mutli line(when displayed) but they do not have "\\P" in them, may I know how do I spot those?  Any help will be grately appreciated.

join pipe network via azumuth

Hi All,   I have a pipe network that has been cut in arbitary locations along its length. i need to join sections of pipe together that have the same diameter and bearing (angle to north). The data just shows it cut into sections, where in reality (in the ground) its one piece of pipe.  I have used the azimuth calcuator to calc the bearing of each pipe section. i have then used a spatail relator (TOUCHES) to establish the pipe sections at either end of my candidate pipe and their bearing and ID's.    Im struggling how to proceed from here. How do i join 2 or more sections that pass my tests together (same diameter, same bearing). The pipe secitons dont have any common ID ?  I do have IDs of what pipes are at either end of my candidate pipe. ie excuse my diagram      A           B          C          D --------I----------I---------I---------     should end up like                            A --------------------------------------     Many Thanks for your assistance  Steve

Difference between 2 datasets - Delta

Hi, What would be the best set of transformers to report on 2 non spatial (CSV) datasets A versus B. I am trying to report deleted records from A because they are not in B, new records in B because they are not in A and attribute differences between A and B reporting B's attributes.  I thought this would have been simple with a FeatureMerger or 2 but alas, it escapes me.

Transform 3D Multipatch Shapefile into 2.5D Shapefile

I would like to transform a 3D multipatch SHP into a 2.5D SHP whereby the attributes for the 2.5D file are the calculated elevation and slope characteristics from the multipatch.  I have tried using the 2DForcer transformer and the BoundsExtractor calculator, which allowed me to hook the maxz up to the BLDG_HEIGHT attribute.  I had some limited success with this configuration.  However, it would seem things come across at strange scales, there are of course no slopes, and in general the it looks like the resulting buildings are just smashed together faces.  Does anyone have any guidance or workflows that you can share to transform 3D multipatch SHP into 2.5D SHP?  Thanks!

Scale and move one bounding box to be within another

Hi,  As the title, I start with a box which I eventually split into tiles. This box needs to be scaled, possibly moved all whilst maintaining the aspect ratio to fit into the reference box.  How should I proceed?  Cheers,

Combine two or more ecw-files with the rastermosaicker

I have two ecw-files. Both have no rectangular shape and overlap each other. When I combine both with a RasterMosaicker. The combined ecw-file has black, I think no-data, areas at the section between them. Can I make these area's transparent? I thought of two options, but I don't know how to use them correct: a Rastermosaicker option Nodata Overwrites Data: yes or no b Composite using Alpha Band: yes or no a: I tried both yes and no but both times the result was a black area b: I tried to set it on yes but then the script fails: the log file reads: "All input files must have exactly one alpha band selected". What do I do wrong? What do I have to do?

Geomedia queries in FME

Hi everyone,  We have a tool in Geomedia compriosed of a set of (complicated) queries and due to Geomedia's limitations to run the tool, we are thinking of applying FME.  Is there any way not to need to recreate these queries from scratch on FME? Any chance we can import queries to FME or possibly through the library feature in Geomedia in which we can store the queries there?  Thanks

Migrating Lines to ARCGIS polyline

I'm trying to import geometry lines from Oracle GeoSpartial database to Arcgis enterprise geodatabase.   and some data will cause the error.   Its says not enough points for feature class, but when I look at offending object.   it clearly has 2 or more coordinates stored, but I notice the start and end point is the same.   I have check the following   a) Using geometry filter to take out lines only   b) Use FME inspector to view the lines.   b) Used geometry validator   4) Used duplicate coordinate -> Valid dataset will cause the same error   How can I solve this problem?    May i know is it possible to set FME to skip those data

Source data upload in Java

Keeping attributes during dissolve

I have used the dissolver to join some spatial data that was touching.  It dissolved the boundaries fine, but all the attributes are gone.  I selected keep attributes in the dissolver, but they are gone.  Do I need to add additional steps and how do I add the attributes back to my data?  Thank you.

Reshape polygon vertices to get uniform vertex distribution

I have a polygon with lots of vertices. I want to create a new polygon with a uniform distribution (distance) of vertices along the edges. At the same time I would like to simply the polygon, thus removing vertices with a high density with no significant influence on the polygon shape.  I would like my result to be a polygon with vertices evenly distributed/spaced along the edges and only a more dense distribution where the shape of the polygon requires.  How can I do this in FME?

Problems with the FME Universal Viewer

3D Geometry issues when aggregating features

Hi All, I am having a bit of trouble with a workspace in which i am converting from an ESRI Shape file to an ESRI Geodatabase.  My initial dataset is 1 file with 3D polygons as the geometry (Polygon ZM).  Each face has an attribute which defines it as either a wall or a face.  Additionally, i have an attribute for each face that is a relationship to an underlying 2D building footprint (a parent footprint ID).  What this means is that i end up having multiple polygons with a reference to a single building footprint.  I need my final feature classes in a Geodatabase to be as follows:- - 2 separate feature classes for roofs and walls - all walls with the same parent attribute to be merged into 1 feature - all roofs with the same parent attribute to be merged into 1 feature - all geometries in walls and roofs to be Multipatches  In order to do this i have used an attributeFilter transformer to split my walls and roofs apart. I then had 2 streams of data being processed.  My next step is to
