Visualizer/dual monitor question

Hi all,   I work with dual monitors at work and when I visualize output from a FME workspace, it seems to open a window on the second monitor as a default. When I work from home via remote desktop connection, I only can only see the first screen, so I am unable to see the visualizer window. Is there an option to force the visualizer to open on the first screen or is there some other setting I can change?  Thanks in advance! Paul

VerticesExtractor in FME2010

Hi All,   While trying to use vertocesExtractor transformer in FME version 2010, it shows error message like..."the transfomer 'counter'(version'2') is used by this workspace, but is not currently available on your system".  Please suggest how I need to resolve this problem in FME 2010 version.  Thanks, Seshu

How to automate parcel numbering

Kindly i need your help , i have a tool in map info that make auto numbering sequentially by clicking in feature  when i press on the feature the value in the record will increase or decrease by a value which i decide, i have to do it manually.  Is it FME capable to do same thing like mapinfo but in automated process. Any advice.   Thank You

Create multiple polygons based on a table join

Hi,  I have a polygon feature class and a table in a file geodatabase. There are multiple rows in the table for a given polygon in the feature class. I want to create a new polygon feature class with polygons for every match in the table. I have tried Matcher, which seems to work, but it is not populating the Shape Area and Shape Length. Anything else I should look into?  Thanks, Srini

Deleting records prior to data load

Hello guys:  I am looking for a way to delete several records from some tables that are "children" of a spatial feature class (SDE), prior to this layer to be refreshed.  The layer in question has two "child" tables, so the truncate option on FME does not work, as Oracle return an error regarding foreign key and child records found.  What I am looking for is for a little process that performs deletions in those two tables prior for the data to be loaded in the spatial layer.  I have been using a SQL Executor and linking the data to be loaded to the "Initiator" parameter of the SQLExecutor. Obviously, in this case the SQLExecutor is called as many times as the number of records that exist in the data source used to refresh the spatial layer, colliding and returning an exception that the "object is locked" (because is trying to delete the table every single time a feature is read).  If I leave the SQL Executor as a "standalone" transforme

Hello everyone, Im new to FME and the number of transformer is huge.  I would like to know if theres a list of most used transformers around, so I can start learning them first.  I did the workbook example and was able to learn how to use several transformer.  I will have to deal with spatial data alot.  Thanks

Creating SQL 2012 Spatial Geography Column from existing Geometry Column

Hello. I am new to using FME/ESRI Data Interoperability tools, so please forgive me for my inexperience with FME translations.  I am working with the Data Interop Extension for ArcGIS , and am attempting to use a custom ETL tool to assist with the translation. I have a SQL 2012 database that contains a table of our crime data. The table has an X and Y coordinate field, which is based off NAD83 Illinois State Plane West system. Using the X and Y fields, I created a GEOMETRY column in the table in SQL Server managment studio (set the SRID in SQL to 4326 when creating the column). However, in order to use Bing tiled map services, I need to have data stored in a Geography column. I am trying to use the FME tool (ESRIReprojector) to import the SQL Server Spatial table, reproject it from NAD83 to WGS84, and then output the result to the empty GEOGRAPHY column. The workspace will run, but there is Not any data populated to the new GEOGRAPHY ) column in the SQL table and I am unsure of where I

Extruding a Circle

I need to extrude a cicle feature to a given depth but the extrude transformer does not appear to work on an ellipse feature. Is there another way to tackle extruding this feature using FME?

Python & global Variable

Hi all  I use a PythonCaller to compare the output from some transformers with a textfile. Depending on the results I would like to set a global variable or modify a published parameter. In the further workflow I would like to use the parameter to determine if the features should be written out or not. As a workaround I used a VaraibleSetter and VariableRetriever to set a global variable which I can use in a Tester. It yould be more elegant to set and expose the global variable or modify a published parameter within the python Caller.  Is it possible to change the value of a published parameter within a PythonCaller? If I try to fo modify the published parameter with FME_MacroValues['NameOfPublishedParameter'] = "Yes", it doesn't affect the value. The default vlaue will be used. Is it possible to set and expose a glaobal variable (function or factory: @GlobalVariable) analog to the VariableSetter/VariableRetriever combo? Thanks for any advice    felix

Global Temporary Table that Contains ST_GEOMETRY

Good evening.  I have created the below global temporary table on our development schema, and within the FME workbench, I am trying to create an ARCSde reader that will use this table.     CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE myglobal(   IGEOM              ST_GEOMETRY,   HU100                   NUMBER,   POP100                  NUMBER,   POPPEP                  NUMBER ) ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS;  When I attempt to create the reader, I receive the below error message:   An error occurred while attempting to open the table, feature class or relationship class 'myglobal'. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147155648'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {Abstract Data Types not supported [myglobal][STATE_ID = 24]}    I tried creating the table with the ST_GEOMETRY column and then creating a reader to access the table within the FME workbench and there were no issues.  Is there something special I need to do to work with ST_GEOMETRY?  I'm encountering a lot of issues us

Change "My documents\\FME" default path directory folder (move to other location)

Hello and sorry if the question has already been asked and resolved, I may not have find the right keywords to find it...    Due to quota on the users's folders "My Documents" (because network stored), we need to change the default path "FME" when installing FME DESKTOP 2013, in order to avoid creating the empty folders which will fill themselves later : - %UserProfile%\\documents\\FME\\CoordinateSyste... - %UserProfile%\\documents\\FME\\Csmap Tansform.... - %UserProfile%\\documents\\FME\\Formats - %UserProfile%\\documents\\FME\\Templates - %UserProfile%\\documents\\FME\\Themes - %UserProfile%\\documents\\FME\\Transform...       I found tips - to change the temp folder (%FME_TMP%), - to change the workspace folder (%FME_MF_DIR%, and options) - to add some ressource folders (%FME_SHARED_RESOURCE_DIR%)    but nothing to change the location of the default main folder "FME"...    Do you think that possible ?    thank you in adv

Comparing Strings and returning unmatched characters?

Hi , I hope this is a simple query.    I have a dataset which has a field that contains the organisation name and address seperated by spaces (see example)   I also have a gazetteer that should match the address in the first dataset without organisation name.    I want to be able to compare the two strings and extract the organisation name into a new field.     Example:    Dataset 1: Kam's Made Up Org 15 Test Street Testingham TE23 2TE    Dataset 2: 15 Test Street Testingham TE23 2TE    Desirable new field: Kam's Made Up Org    p.s. Both datasets have a unique identifier also to match them together.    Regards,

Rotator Unexpected Results

I have created a workspace that reads a georeferenced autocad drawing and writes to sql server.  As part of my workspace I include a Rotator that alters the orientation of all drawing features for page layout purposes.  The resulting coordinates are not important as long as they fall within the coordinate system and therefore remain valid for Geoserver's gridset.  I chose the center of the drawing as the X,Y axis around which to perform the rotation.  When I view the result of the workspace, I have to zoom way, way in in order to find the rotated drawing features. Why is the rotator changing the drawing scale?

Geometry error from GE Smallworld to ArcSDE that stops the translation

Hi - I have been getting errors with a translation from GE Smallworld (4.2) to ArcSDE (9.3.1) that is exporting out polygon features. I would like to understand why these errors are not just logged so that the translation can continue. I have set the Workbench Writer Parameter "Ignore Failed Features" to Yes for the SDE database, but it still fails. I have tried a few different transformers (self-intersector, geometry validator, etc.) to try and either fix the geometry or at the very least, remove it from the list of features to be exported to try and keep the process going. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to either trap this error so that it can continue or possibly even fix the geometry so that it can be exported? Below is a partial section of the log showing the fatal error. I am using FME 2011 SP3, Build 6529. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. how do I load spatial data to OGDI for our open data catalogue?

Hi everyone,  I'm successful when loading CSV data to OGDI to populate our open data catalogue, but I can't get spatial data to load.  I get an error "The property value is larger than allowed by the Table Service." when trying to load our town boundary.  I know I'm doing something wrong, could someone talk with me about how to load spatial data to OGDI?  I've trying to simply read a boundary feature class and write directly to the OGDI writer, specifying "ogdi_area" as a constant value for the ogdi_type attribute.  But no difference.    Thanks  Steve

Why the PythonCall local polyconic reproject on LL27 gives incorrect results, but WGS84 give correct ones

I have a pythoncaller that does a local polyconic reprojection. SQLCreator with ArcSDE

Is it possible in FME to use SQLCreator with a custom (or any) ArcSDE Reader?   What I have now is a workspace that uses a SQLCreator to take in an entire (not just the WHERE clause) SQL statement from a web form, and then it exposes all attributes using AttributeExposer, and then styles the result of this through KMLStyler, and then finally passes off this result to a KML writer.  This works perfectly where the reader is Oracle non-spatial (on SDOGEOMETRY data).  Now, I need to do the exact same thing, except that I am required to use STGEOMETRY instead of SDOGEOMETRY.  I've created a custom Reader to help with my purposes (let's just call it XReader), but I see no way of incorporating that Reader into SQLCreator.  Is there any way to make XReader available to SQLCreator?  I have tried importing XReader without success (I can provide detail if needed).   Thanks very much.

Aggregate diagonal touching polygons

Hello, I have a dataset that in which I need to reduce records. The dataset is made up of a grid that covers a very large area and has been exported from a raster dataset. I will call each unit of this grid a cell, which is essentially a square of equal sides and measures some 0.5 ha.  The first method that I have used to reduce records was the DISSOLVE transformer and grouping by several attributes, which works great for all cells that have common boundaries - no surprise there.  I would like to include cells that only have a corner point in common and can be grouped by the same several attributes.  Is there a transformer that would carry out this sort of task?  Regards Benton

IBM Rational Team Concert

Hello FME,  My company will be incooperating IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) to our process. One of the functionalities RTC offers is the Build Ant scripts  that can automate deployment using Ant scripts. Being new to the FME world and reading up on the material out there, I was told that using FME Workbench is the easiest and most effective way to migrate code (.fmw files) than to do the migration the old way by registering the code through FME server. Is there a way to utilize the Ant Build script to automate the migration process? If yes, can you please help me on where I can get started? If not, can this functionality be incooperated into the FME software in the distant future? Thank you for your input.

How to handle AutoCAD .DWG source file with unknown projection?

I am building a command line driven translation from AutoCAD .DWG file to Adobe Geospatial .PDF.  My end users are uploading the .DWG file(s) to me.  Can anyone help me with my question.  Do I have to force the end user to supply the .DWG file in a specific projection, or is there a way to run the workspace as having the source projection "UNDEFINED" ?  I have tried the follow:  Now, I have modfied and tested my workspace because the supplied .DWG file I am using I know has been created with the projection of  "Pennsylvania State Plane South 83 Feet"   I know that by defining the souce project as this value, I can acheive the desired PDF result.    However, if I use either "UNDEFINED" or "UNDEFINED-FOOT", I end up in the middle of the earth (which is obviously not desired)    Therefore, my question is how would I take my workspace and modify it so that it can be flexible enough to handle any source projection?      I have tried to link to my work

PDFStyler Parameters (styling 2D points)

Hi everyone,  I'm using the PDFStyler to create an interactive geospatial PDF where users can click on a point to launch a photo in a separate viewer.  I've managed to get this to work, but would like to customise the PDF slightly.    The main issue is how can I get the points to be a larger?  At the moment they are very small and I can't see an obvious parameter to change.  Buffering the point first doesn't help.  Also, any pointers on how I can insert things like a title into the PDF and make it appear above the map?  Here's my parameters:    Here's my PDF:  http://db.tt/7DVGGRjc  Any help would be much appreciated!  Amit

3D geometry to Oracle

Hello all.   I am reading a CAD file with 2d geometry, however in a certain moment I force it to 3d  geometry with 0 as z value, after that, I am trying to write to Oracle Spatial Object, but what returns is - The geometry type `3002' is not understood by the Oracle Spatial writer . Would you know what is happens? There is a relation with the version 11g?   Thanks in Advance.
