translate empty features

Good morning. I have a quick questio. I need to migrate the schema from a geodatabase to an empty CAD file. I just want to make sure I have the same schema in the CAD file and to be able to leverage domain vaules etc. Is this possible using FME? Thanks

Why is the answer to my thread disappearing?

All, I posted a question here (https://safecommunity.force.com/CommunityAnswers#!/feedtype=SINGLE_QUESTION_DETAIL&dc=FME_Desktop&criteria=OPENQUESTIONS&id=906a0000000d05kAAA)but when I try to view the thread, I can see there is a response, but it is disappearing as soon as the page finishes loading. How do I use AppearanceSetter?

I've got three different very simple 3D features that I want to export to a 3D PDF. That works. But I now want to style each feature a different colour (based on an attribute). But I can't figure out AppearanceSetter. There doesn't seem to be anything in the knowledge based newer than a very old FME-Evalangelist - http://blog.safe.com/2010/04/fmeevangelist58/ - and an article about what the Holder portion does - http://fmepedia.safe.com/articles/Samples_and_Demos/Using-the-HOLDER-ports-in-the-AppearanceSetter-transformer All I want to do is set colours - no textures. I feel the transformer is over-complex when I want to do something very simple (the help for the transformer doesn't live up to its name either). Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

How do I use TextStroker Version 2

Hi, With TextStroker [version 1], there was a parameter "Text String Attribute". This contained the string attribute which was to be stroked. Worked fine. However, in TextStroker V2 this parameter is gone. I now don't appear to have any way to tell the TextStroker what it is meant to be working on. I tried putting a GeometryCoercer (to FME_Text) in front of it, but of course that doesn't let you pick an attribute either. So how do you use TextStroker V2? What am I missing? Cheers, Jonathan

Clip a polygonz feature

I have a flat roof as polygonz feature that has dormer windows (I hope this is the correct expression) as additional polygonz hovering over it. For drainage calculations I would like to have the flat roof polygonz with holes where the dormer windows are and additionally the dormer window as they already exist. I tried to make a sketch of what I mean: resulting Area A = A - ( B+C+D) Total roof Area = Area A (with holes) + B + C + D. AreaOnArea overlayer gives me weird looking results with a lot of artifacts. I tried to 2Dforce the roof and clip it like that but then I am unable to make it 3D again since there is no attribute I can use for it (because then I would merge the unclipped Area A again). “line string or poly boundary is self-intersecting” error, On our workflow, the CAD hatches that represent the Landuse are converted to polygons and then these polygons are collected in one layer stored in ESRI enterprise geodatabase. As the FME is applied to convert the hatches of CAD to GIS polygons, these generated polygons by the FME introduce error as they are copied and pasted to the destination layer in the enterprise geodatabase. when exporting polyline features to mapinfo format using FME writer, the polylines are exported as a single line.

when exporting polyline features from our source to mapinfo format using FME writer, the polylines are exported as a single line. All the y coordinates are having the same value in the exported mapinfo file when viewed in FME data inspector. We are using UTM(Universal Transverse Mercator) as projection algorithm and NAD 27 as map datum in the coordinate system file for export. The same is working fine for Arcview format when we use the same coordinate system file. Please suggest some solution to achieve proper transformation in this case. We doubt if this is a bug in FME for map info format as the problem could not be seen with other formats. Also, please provide some information on using userdefined coordinate system information while using FME writer. Any help is greatly aprreciated. Thank You.

CityGML implicit geometry

Hi all, is it possible to write CityGML implicit geometries? and if so, can anyone tell me, how does it work, because I can't get it work! When I look into the CityGML_schema_xfMap.xml, I see: "<note> TODO: LOD[1-4]ImplicitRepresentation </note>", which is giving me the idea that it doesn't work yet? I also found that the CityGML reader cannot read implicitgeometry and xlink:href, but can I write it? I already changed the citygml_lod_name to lod1ImplicitGeometry. the coordinate of the input point is than used as reference point (although I didn't indicate that, but that's what I want to happen, so happy me :) ) I found in the format attributes already the CityGML_mime_type and Citygml_transformationmatrix, but these aren't added to my implicitgeometry in the CityGML export file what I want to know is - can I write implicit geometry into CityGML? - how I can set the other properties (especially the relativeGMLGeometry, which is most of the

Hi, I have an ASCII grid with a cell size of 1km2, I was wondering if there was a way to aggregate these cells into 5km2 grid squares. I initially thought of using RasterResampler, but there is no option to sum the attributes. For those familiar with ArcGIS i esentially want the equivilent of the tool 'Aggregate' Thanks, Ed

Lineonlineoverlayer count segments

I am splitting a line feature class against another class using lineonlineoverlayer. I want a counter for each segment. If an input segment is split into three segments I want a counter going 0-2. The Counter transformer simply counts the total number of features output. Is there something that increments the number of times an individual input segment is split? Here's a sample of what I am looking for. FromID is the input OID. FromID Segment 1 0 1 1 1 2 2 0 3 0 3 1 4 0

Controlling how Data Inspector's renders 3D vector and point cloud data?

I am looking to render points in 3D (shapefiles and point clouds) in the Data Inspector without writing a new file. Specifically I would like to control the transparency and size of points. I am not looking for any kind of computationally insentive operations (for example as using 3D buffer onall points to get bigger points). Is there a direct hook into FME's rendering engine with some kind of transformers or other memory efficient tricks? Thanks!

2d point replacer

Okay so I see a lot has changed since I was last in FME. I have an ESRI file geodatabase table that contains X and Y data adn I want to create a file geodatabase feature using that data. In an older version I used 2d point replacer but it seems that transformer is no longer available. I am also having trouble with my installation of FME 2014 SP 1 not giving me any help topics. Any suggestions on how to complete this task.

How to avoid deleting small polygons when using Generalizer ?

I have a dataset containing large and small polygons. When I generalized the layer, preserving the shared boudnaries, small pieces get deleted. Is there w way to avoid deleting small polygons ?

Missing polygons when converting CAD hatches to polygons,

Missing polygons when converting CAD hatches to polygons, I have already reported this issue multiple times but with now robust solution. FME doesn’t read precisely what we see visually on the CAD file. Yes, I agree that our hatches could be “dirty” but at the end of the day they are recognized to be hatches in the AutoCAD. The issue here that we have tens of the CAD files that we need to convert their hatches to polygon. I have applied the workbench below to convert the hatches of AutoCAD to polygons. Hi, Im currently working on converting CAD floor plans into 3D views. Each room has a tag holding various attributes relating to it, Room ID, Room Use, Room Height and so on.. My Workbench extrudes rooms, offsets floors assigns colours dependant on use etc and all is going well. Im writing to 3D PDF and the results are what I want, accept for one thing. The Node list. Currently I fanout by a Block ID. A building may have several blocks dependant on construction date, this enables the user to select the block from the Node list and highlight all rooms in that block. What i would like to do is populate that list with Room IDs also. The screeshot should help visualise what im trying to do. As you can see I have created the Nodes in the advanced writer parameters and the fanout by Block (1/1) has worked correctly but the ID (G0036) is not being assigned to the sub level to block (1/1) Anyone got any ideas? i have tried the pdf_parent_uid to no avail. perhaps im missing

Maptextlabeller parameters

Hi! I'm having some issues using maptextlabeller : Labelling lines : labels are too far away from the lines. I tried to correct that with a maptextstyler. I found how to get them further but not closer. Labelling points : some of the labels are overcrossing lines. However, I don't allow overcrossing lines in the rules and I've also checked lines as obstacles. Thanks for your advices. Charlotte

Help with testing for date?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to select records that match todays date - could someone help me out with the best transformer to use? I'm thinking Tester, but just not sure how to set the 'right value'? I'm reading a table that contains coords for our snow plow equipment, and I'd like to only pass through those records whose date equals the current date (todays date). FME fails to convert properly hatches of AutoCAD to polygons,

FME fails to convert properly hatches of AutoCAD to polygons, I’m still the first square where FME fails to interpret the "dirty" AutoCAD file properly. I wanted to convert the hatches shown in the screenshots with the given workbench. The result is improper. Areas of Overlap

Hi, I have two sets of polygon data which overlap and I want to assign attributes from layer A onto layer B, without altering the geometry of polygons into layer B. I know I can use the Spatial Relator to do this. The problem that I have is that I only want a polygon in layer B to inherit attributes from an overlapping layer A polygon where the two polygons share a significant proportion of overlap - i.e. I don't want to copy attributes if the overlap is a tiny sliver. One idea I did have was to shrink each polygon in from its edges by giving it a negative buffer (can you do that?) since that would then get round the issue of marginal edges overlapping. Another idea was to calculate the proportion of overlap - i.e. polygon Y in layer A has xx% of its area overlapping polygon Z in layer B. Any suggestions folks? cheers IanM

Spatial join of polygons

Hi, I've been trying the Spatial Relator to get the desired output. (a hypothetical example given in the image below). ( as seen in admin B and admin C, admin boundaries and postal boundaries match... this works fine. ) Now, the problem lies in cases such as, admin A, where the postal areas are further divided and do not match the admin boundary. Tried using Test to perform as touches... but that gives values of A, B and C within A Did try the othe transformers but spatial relator has been the closest. How to arrive at the desired output! Creating geometry for multiple records

I have a table that contains say inspections on specific sites. I also have a feature class that contains a point for each site. These two can be linked by an ID field. I am trying to create records for each inspections to be displayed as a point. I am trying to use Feature Merger but it only returns one record. I'm sure this is easy but it's been a while since I used FME and I am suffering a mental block here. Please point me in the right direction.
