I’ll bite, keeping it related to FME ;-)

This year, we successfully completed a major migration of a client’s raster data warehouse built more than a decade ago. It was based on FME Flow with now very outdated workspaces relying on ArcGIS and Oracle for data storage, handling millions of rasters.

The updated architecture has fully modernized FME workflows using database connections, automations, and deployment parameters, running on Linux with PostGIS as the backend. Operating costs were significantly reduced by eliminating the need for dedicated Windows servers, ArcGIS licenses, and Oracle infrastructure.

Performance also improved by an order of magnitude: the system processes its ~10-15,000 daily FME jobs about ten times faster than before.

It was very satisfying to have contributed to such a substantial and measurable success :-)
