Question of the week: What do you listen to at work...
Hello FME Community! There’s nothing like a good soundtrack to help you focus and get into the zone. Music has a way of making even the busiest workday feel a little lighter 🎶

I’m currently listening to the new Tame Impala album! Really liking it so far 🎶

all Tame Impala albums are great, + so happy to have a new one - Deadbeat. Kevin Parker comes from my state… watch his official music videos, many have him at home writing or playing the songs from his amazing home in south west of WA, Australia
When working from home, I put on the radio in the background. At the office I just listen to the background noise my colleagues produce.
We’ve got a couple of Spotify playlists, the biggest one is “Toponyms”, songs whose titles refer to locations:
It’s been mentioned here before 😄 The only rules is that me and my colleague Inge have to like it (but I managed to sneak some Ramones songs in anyway, I mean, you gotta have Bonzo Goes To Bitburg and Havana Affair) and the location must be in the title. It can be a fictional location (Shangri-La), very far (Andromeda), very big (The Globe) or cryptic (Fire).
The other one we listen to a lot is the one we call Chill:
A lot of Pink Floyd on that one, but Gorillaz also feature a lot (looking forward to their new album).
Funny enough my favourite band is woefully underrepresented in both lists 😂
Probably my current favorite for getting in the zone, especially with a decent headset:
This live concert by Air at the Royal Albert Hall is also fantastic, but I recommend hiding the video if you don’t enjoy rapidly flashing lights while trying to concentrate:
Otherwise I mainly listen to the French radio station FIP, which is somewhat of an institution: https://www.radiofrance.fr/fip Very eclectic, but consistently great music of all genres. I’ve discovered (and rediscovered) so many fantastic artists there.
Also, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and KEXP live performances on Youtube are often amazing.
right now I’m chilling to @redgeographics’s chill playlist (Thanks for sharing). Atom Heart Mother is still going. Gotta love Pink Floyd.
Usually I’m listening to synthwave - This is pure nostalgia

If I wouldn’t be doing FME or cartography for a living I’d probably want to find a job where I can share my opinions about music. I’ve toyed with the idea of doing some Youtube videos on some of the songs from my Toponyms list, but got hit with copyright strikes about 3 seconds after uploading the first one 🙄

Great question @creeatsafe
Hi @creeatsafe ,
When I was working with FME, I like to get inspiration from listening to 80's music.
Thanks :)
Danilo
Some podcast but mostly electro / techno !
Probably my current favorite for getting in the zone, especially with a decent headset:
This is awesome!
Bit of Metal/Metalcore/Alt Rock/Emo here! Don’t judge me…
Really getting into Poppy, Spiritbox, Gore., Amira Elfeky recently (great to hear some female vocals in the genre), but always back to the classics of Bring me the Horizon, My Chemical Romance, Bad Omens, Architects, Tool, Trivium, Highly Suspect, Rise Against - to name a few!
I'd really like to listen to podcasts, but it’s hard to concentrate on them while working.
But I can recommend:
Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me (US-based news/comedy)
The Red Flags Podcast (Formula 1)
Beef and Dairy Network (Very strange comedy about beef farming)
How Did This Get Made? (Movie Discussions)
I’d love to hear your recommendations - I like comedy or educational. I’m not really into true crime.
I like to listen to music that is peaceful (again, my favourite music is too hard to listen to while working). Currently, I have Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game on repeat because a few friends and I are learning to play it. Also Heart Like a Wheel by Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
M.
Of course I listen to feedback from my fellow colleagues…
Don’t listen to a lot of music while working. But sometimes I need to kill the ear-worm. Then I would start with Michael Jackson or Queen and wonder off to Teardrops, Wait and Bleed and Bodies on the Floor.
Was working with AI to find some new songs on a playlist and came up with this: Ashnikko – Slumber Party Billie Eilish – bury a friend Sub Urban – Cradles Lorde – Royals MØ – Waste of Time Doja Cat – Rules GRLwood – I’m Yer Dad Poppy – I Disagree
