Inspired by a fun comment from @redgeographics on a past Question of the Week about his toponyms playlist: What’s your favourite song that has a location in the title?

New to the Question of the Week?

Every week, we’ll post a simple but thought-provoking question that could be about your FME journey, the power of spatial data, FME innovation, or the future of FME.

Each weekly question you answer earns you an entry in our monthly draw for exclusive Safe swag ($50 value) and points toward badges! Answer our March Questions of the Week by April 30, 2025 at 5:00 pm PDT to be entered in this month’s draw.

Answer your first question and you’ll get the Socializer (Ice Breaker) badge. Answer five questions and you’ll get the Socializer (Talker) badge.

If you need some inspiration, here is the playlist from @redgeographics that inspired the question!

Chicago - Sufjan Stevens

 Such a good one! @mattmatsafe

Vancouver Time - Leif Vollebekk

Oh! @mattmatsafe Good one! Sufjan Steven’s might be the King of Toponymusic!

I have always loved Istanbul (Not Constantinople) as performed by They Might Be Giants.

@carlwittmann did you create this playlist just for QOW! 😲

  • Big in Japan - Alphaville
  • One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head

  • McArthur Park - Richard Harris
  • Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
  • New York Minute - Don Henley
  • Africa - Toto

(and so much more)

  • Mrs. Washington (Gigolo Aunts)
  • King of New York (Fun Lovin’ Criminals)
  • I Wish I Was in California (Ian McNabb)
  • Virginia (Leaf Rapids)

Wow! A lot of US states there. I’m not sure why, it wasn’t deliberate. Incidentally, Leaf Rapids is itself a small town in northern Manitoba, so that’s a double toponym there.

My taste in music is a little different than what has been shared so far. Hopefully someone finds something new they like!

San Sebastian by Sonata Arctica
One Night in Tokyo by Beast in Black
Cliffs of Gallipoli by Sabaton

  • Big in Japan - Alphaville
  • One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head

I love both music!

I have many favourites on that list, but since Clem Burke passed away earlier this week I'm going to have to lead with Blondie's Detroit 442

And because he doesn't get the recognition he deserves as an artist in his own right, what with Pete Townshend being his older brother: Simon Townshend's Girl In New York

Finally, we have to have Spinal Tap's Stonehenge

@danilo_fme constantly on repeat - so good!

April Sun in Cuba, by Dragon

One Night in Bangkok, from the musical Chess

Dominion Rd, by The Mutton Birds

Parihaka, by Tim Finn and Herbs

For me it would have to be Hotel California. Mainly because it is used as a form of self-defence in the movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

This is an excellent example where ChatGPT can help 😉 but I’ll admit it takes the fun away.

Adding California Love - 2Pac / Dr. Dre

April Sun in Cuba, by Dragon

Dominion Rd, by The Mutton Birds

Parihaka, by Tim Finn and Herbs

One Night in Bangkok - great!

Good Morning from Mexico - Riley Green

Inspired by the Riley Green concert I attended the day before heading to Mexico on vacation at the beginning of the month 🌴🌞
