Some tasks just never seem to end — dishes, errands… the list goes on! ⏳ What if FME could step in and handle one for you?

This week’s Question of the Week:
💭 If you could automate one everyday task (not work-related!) with FME, what would it be?

I’ve always wanted a high quality barista coffee, made each morning automatically. The trigger event would need to be another connected device, perhaps as open the fridge the first time, so the coffee might be ready for just after finishing breakfast.

I’ve read there already many iOT coffee machines, mostly servicing big business and centred around  alerting the resupply and maintenance. So I wonder if FME, via your local home network, could use MQTT server/topic listening for commands…. here is a DIY home automation example https://www.instructables.com/IoT-Enabled-Coffee-Machine/

This is not an everyday task (unless I make photography my day job), but this weekend I was helping out a friend who had set up a photobooth at an event. Basically people could pose within a certain setting, with props and everything, and a photographer (me) would take their photo.

Obviously I had set up the camera and lighting properly so there would be no need for editing.

In order to get all of the photos to the right people quickly I came up with an FME Flow process where I would drag the photo to a Flow app, which would show it on-screen (after applying my watermark of course) with an automatically generated QR code. They would then scan the QR code with their phone to run a second workspace which would stream the workspace back to their phone. Et voila.

I was thinking of doing a webinar or instruction video on this, it’s a non-geo application of FME but was interesting to work on.

I would like FME to detect when the cat's litter is full and when one of my kids needs a diaper change !

Resume : LitterStatusAnalyzer and KidsDiaperDetector :D

I think an FME Lizard doll would be awesome too! We could even imagine FME being installed in Daryl’s brain!

Would be nice if FME could, with some restrictions, check my email, see the bills I have to pay, enters bank details and automatically pays them.

Optionally FME could also gather all things which I need to pay, ask me for approval and then pays everything 😀

I actually dont want FME to cook for me because I like that task, but everything else surrounding the cooking is a chore. So I would have FME to read my mind and see what I am in the mood to eat and cook, TastebudEvaluator transformer. Obviously check the pantry and fridge and make a shopping list (I already have 4 jars of capers and I don’t know why) - PantryChecker and ShoppingListMaker transformers. a webhook to send the list to the grocery store whenever the list is populated. Once the groceries are delivered and I am done cooking, notify my husband via text message to wash the dishes, SpouseNotifier.

Some good ideas have already been shared!
At this point in my life, I would like the AutoNagger in my life.  The trigger will be hearing my kids' voices, followed by some TestFilter logic to determine the actions that need to be met (putting things away, homework, etc...), which results in the AutoNagger metaphorically (or many not so metaphorically) sending out a go-go-gadget-robot-arm to poke… I mean, gently redirect, the kids to get stuff done.

And, let’s be honest, I will probably need the AugoNagger to help me out too. So, once I have my things done, I will borrow @j.botterill’s HighQualityBarista to sit down with a warm cup of yum.

I need more reminders to get up and move around.  An automation with a schedule that runs 8am-6pm every day that checks my fitness tracker activity (via HTTPCaller) and if not active enough, sends me really annoying alerts via email, Teams, and SMS (probably all via HTTPCaller too).

I’d love to automate my morning coffee routine. FME could check how much sleep I got, what my day looks like, and even the weather to suggest the perfect coffee strength. Some days you just need that extra shot to make it through.

If FME could automate the weekly shop that would be great. I could have a load of items and each could have a different schedule. milk and bread would be every 3 days, store cupboard staples like pasta, tinned tomatoes could be every week and households such as washing powder, dishwasher tablets could be on a monthly. I could be prompted when a schedule is due and accept or deny the item on this schedule and FME could then place an online delivery order to our local supermarket. To add to this if FME could use the AI connector to look at the ingredients I currently have in the house inventory database and the ingredients ordered to make meal suggestions in the evening and even suggest the extras I need to add to the order to make the meal including a step by step recipe plan output as a PDF.

Supermarket shopping and dinner decisions are the most mentally exhausting chores every week! I would also ask it to cook but that might be a step too far unless Safe decide to branch out into robotics!

I would really love it if FME could unload my dishwasher in the morning. I don’t mind loading it because that happens sort of throughout the day a dish here and a dish there; but unloading is an all-at-once task that I do almost first thing in the morning when I have a lot of other things to do. Like fully waking up...

I'd like FME to floss and brush my teeth every day.
