Tiff/GeoTiff created with FME: Display quality in ArcMap is bad

Hello

I create a Tiff/GeoTiff in FME and then visualize it ArcMap. I build pyramids and use "bilinear resampling" in ArcMap and I get a quite bad display quality.

If I read the same image into irfanview and save it (with nothing changed) and then use this Tiff in ArcMap the display quality is much better (smooth lines, better text readability,...).

A colleague, which is quite an expert in raster, analysed both files and couldn't tell any difference except for the internal block size used.

Is there any idea what is hitting me here ? What does FME bad with the raster so that ArcMap cannot display it with good quality ?

This behaviour seems to be independent of the resolution.

Thanks for any helpful idea

Michael
