I am attempting to run a workspace on FME Server 2017 that writes to the Adobe Illustrator - Avenza MAPublisher writer. However, I keep getting the following error: "Failed to locate Avenza MAPublisher installed on this machine." I have installed MAPublisher 9.8 on both the client workstation, as well as the server that FME Server 2017 is installed on. I have run this same workflow successfully using FME Desktop 2017. Please advise on any solutions that may explain why FME Server is not recognizing that MAPublisher is installed. Thank you.
Have you tried running the MAPublisher installer again? Sometimes there's a DLL conflict.
And some food for thought: a few years ago I considered a FME-to-MAPublisher workflow in a similar environment which was discouraged by Avenza on account of Adobe Illustrator not being a server application. In our case we wanted to process a lot of maps in a short amount of time, so multiple processes simultaneously, Illustrator can't handle that.
Hi @reprojectorrob, the Avenza Support team is here to help find a solution to your problem.
As @redgeographics mentioned, the MAPublisher-FME Server workflow is not "officially" supported because Adobe Illustrator is not a server application. However in cases like these, we try to do our best to find a suitable workaround. Our first recommendation is to try running the installer again. If that does not solve the problem, can you confirm the following pieces of information and send a response directly to our support team at support@avenza.com
- The bit architecture (32 vs. 64-bit) for each application on the server machine (i.e. FME Server, FME Desktop and Adobe Illustrator) are the same?
- Can you also verify that the Avenza MAPublisher for Illustrator extension is successfully extended via the Integration console (FME Desktop) for the correct version of Adobe Illustrator.
