Replace point dataset with sketchup tree components

Hi all

I am creating a large sketchup model where I need to place a large number of trees at ertain xyz points. The thing is I already have all the points where the trees need to be placed as GIS table in a local Postgis database and a model of a tree in sketchup.

Has anyone tried replacing a point dataset with a sketchup model and then exporting the whole thing as a new sketchup file.

Any ideas would be appreciated
