FME AR on Android

Forum|alt.badge.img

Are there any known issues with the FME AR application on Android devices? We are running it on a Samsung galaxy S7 Edge. This is one of supported devices according to https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices.

When we run the app the fmear file can be loaded, it just doesn't display. We are using the sample files from https://knowledge.safe.com/articles/803/view-your-data-with-augmented-reality.html as well as one of our own. All the files show correctly on an iPhone.

Details of the Android version are below.

Hmm, works for me with this model: https://knowledge.safe.com/storage/attachments/20994-examplehousemodel.zip

Same Android Version - Samsung S7...

Perhaps you need to update the app?

Thanks for the answer.

We installed the app yesterday for the first time so believe we have the latest version. That is one of the sample files we tried.

We put the sample file up onto Google Drive and it said loaded correctly but just failed to display, alas.

Interesting - let me uninstall and get it again to test....

Yep, works for me still. Perhaps an uninstall/reinstall? Are you placing the model on a flat surface? Perhaps the app is just not finding a flat surface?

We are doing the same thing on Android as on iOS so it should find the surface. We will have a go at uninstalling and re-installing plus trying another device over the weekend.

We uninstalled and re-installed the app over the weekend but, alas, it still doesn't work for us. Are there any logs we can look at that might indicate what the problem is?

Sorry @ianashley,

You might have to create a support case with safe for help. :(

I do sometimes experience some issues of detecting a horizontal plane in FME AR on Android. When a plane is detected, the screen should show a triangle mesh. Maybe a different surface will work.

Do you know if there is a difference between the iOS and Android apps in this respect? The iOS app works fine with our carpet.

The FME AR app for Android is still using an early version (1.1) of Google's ARCore. The newest version is 1.7. We will try upgrading it to see if it solves the plane detection problem.
