Is it possible to expose the field aliases from a file geodatabase or personal gdb?

I'd love to see this implemented, not just on the reader, but writer as well. We commonly use alias' as our human readable field names in our map services. The work around right now is to change them in the MXD, but it sure would be nice to be able to push that back to the feature class.
