Can I use the results of a quick translation to create a seed workbench to develop a skookum translator and make my boss proud?

Quick Translator to Workbench File

Best answer by mark2atsafe

No, there's no way to do that. To be honest, if it's just a quick translation then it wouldn't take more than a second to generate the workspace in Workbench anyway. You could file this as an idea (so that Tools > Generate could generate a workspace instead of a mapping file) but I doubt it would be that high on anyone's list of priorities.

Hi @newbie_forever.

Sharing a few more details will help the FME community help you. Please reply to this thread and provide additional details including:

  • A clear statement of the problem you are trying to resolve
  • The version of FME you are using, including build number and edition
  • A small sample of your data, or screenshots of the data in the FME Data Inspector
  • A description of your expected output, with screenshots if possible
  • Your FME workspace
  • Your FME translation log file
  • Any other information that may be useful to share

@Mark2AtSafe

Hi Mark2,

Thanks for this. I thought i would provide a few more details. This actually stemmed from a question I asked last week about carrying a rotation angle of a dwg block through to an IGDS cell to which you kindly answered and solved my problem. Before I received your answer to that question I tried a quick translation of the same files and it did transfer the rotation angle which made me think that if I could get the results of the quick translator to produce a seed workbench file it would save me time setting up numerous AttributeExposer transformers in my workbench..........But, now that my creative juices are flowing, perhaps i was too hasty in setting up my original workbench and missed some advanced options that may too have solved this problem. I have been using FME for years (the head office was a little building on King George Highway!!) but sad to say i usually just wing it with the quick translator and hope for the best, which usually works for me. I have never taken advantage of the POWER. But I will.

Thanks again.
