FME Server can't open Oracle client libraries but Desktop can

On the FME Server VM I have setup, the 64 bit Oracle Instant Client isn't being recognized by FME Server. I have the PATH environmental variable set to the folder. I also installed Desktop on the same VM and it has no problem connecting to Oracle databases.

What else can I try?

This is the error I get when running the workbench in Server:

Oracle client libraries (e.g. oci.dll) could not be loaded. Ensure that the 64-bit client is installed and properly configured, and the PATH environment variable includes the file path to your Oracle client. Refer to https://community.safe.com/s/article/how-to-setup-an-oracle-instant-client-for-use-with for more information

The Oracle Instant Client setup is the "Basic Package" Version 21.9.0.0.0

FME Server

  • 2022.2.4 Build 22792 - win64

FME Desktop

  • 2022.2.4.0 (20230303 - Build 22792 - WIN64)
  • Database Edition

Hello,

Please ensure that this article was used to install instant client- https://community.safe.com/s/article/how-to-setup-an-oracle-instant-client-for-use-with .

This might be a great troubleshooting article - https://knowledge.safe.com/articles/28996/fme-and-oracle-troubleshooting-guide.html

The FMEReport.html after running the system_information.bat file from: https://knowledge.safe.com/articles/714/general-troubleshooting-gathering-system-informati.html should provide additional information including PATH.

@Merline George I was able to resolve this with the help of @steveatsafe where he noticed I had set the Environment Variable under the User variables instead of the System variables. After I set the PATH System variable, restarted the FME Server services, everything worked. Hope this helps someone else and maybe the article needs to be updated to include this specific.

Yes - I followed the steps when setting up. FME Desktop doesn't have an issue connecting to Oracle (i.e the reader/writers aren't grayed out and I can run the workbench without issue). FME Server is the issue where it can't find the libraries.

I ran the FMEReport.html as you suggested and I think everything looks ok...image

I've also submitted a case for this (C689290).
