Reading this: https://support.safe.com/hc/en-us/articles/25407546959629-Deploying-FME-Flow-on-Azure

It seems possible to deploy a finished setup on Azure using this product: https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/safesoftwareinc.fme-platform?tab=Overview

My questions are. Is there anyone that have tried this approach (only 1 review right now)? And what are the estimated costs for the Azure infrastructure per month for this setup? I understand the costs are higher for more usage etc. However ther have to be a minimum estimated  cost for a “normal” system somehow.

We’ve done it earlier this year and setup was relatively straightforward. It doesn’t come with HTTPS by default so that was set up separately. We have a reserved standard sized instance, running 24/7, with a fixed ip address. We locked the prices down for 3 years so that brings us to a monthly cost, usage included, of a little over 200 euro’s ex VAT.

I would recommend that you let somebody with some Azure knowledge do this, even though Microsoft is a lot more transparent that Amazon when it comes to predicting cost I still found it hard to navigate.

Thank you for the great insight as always @redgeographics ! I will try to do some benchmarking on the performance side also. As the CPU/RAM is not as high when choosing the defaults.

I also notice this seems to be Windows VM-s. I wonder why they dont use Linux for this template. I assume that would bring the costs down also. In many cases this system does not need to be able to use Windows formats and can happily use Linux. However then it might be too similar to running on FME Cloud?

Most of our jobs are relatively lightweight, we do occasionally get warnings about response times, but so far not pressing enough to scale up.
