Question

SharePoint Online List Writer error - Python Exception <TypeError>: unhashable type: 'dict'

Up until 4/12, my workspace was writing to a SP list normally. It reads data from SQL and updates the SP list to match any changes. After someone changed the name of a SP column on the 12th, the workflow errored - but after the change was reverted, it still errored. The first line with the Python Exception was not in the original error when the column name was changed:

Python Exception <TypeError>: unhashable type'dict'
SHAREPOINT writer: A fatal error has occurred. Check the logfile above for details
FeatureJoiner_2_JOINED_-1_35_Player (RecorderFactory): SHAREPOINT writer: A fatal error has occurred. Check the logfile above for details

First photo is an overview of the workspace - everything runs fine up until the SharePoint Writer labeled "TOPS Project List". No problems with the SharePoint Reader. Second photo is settings for the Writer (which worked fine last week!).

Same problem. Is there still no solution?

I’m having this problem too & can’t find any solution currently (using FME 2023.2).

I don’t get the Python Exception if I write to a SharePoint list that doesn’t contain a field with images, but as soon as I add a column to the list with images, it starts throwing the exception - even though I am not updating the image column, and only trying to update another column in the list!

Just looking at the original post from @datawhisperer from 3 years ago, I see a ticket that improved handling this error in circumstances where records were being deleted.  The only information I have on that fix is that it was a matter of properly handling certain parameters and metadata.  This fix was made in FME 2022.0.

For @warrejo: I managed to reproduce the issue you are experiencing when writing to a list that contains a column set to an image type.  I’ve filed this issue with our development team (internal reference FMEENGINE-86832).

Great, thanks Nampreet. I’m glad to hear that there isn’t something wrong with my SharePoint list itself.

In the meantime, if anyone else comes across this issue and it isn’t fixed yet, I have come up with a workaround by emailing the results of my FME process to an inbox that is then picked up by Power Automate to update the desired columns in the list instead.
