FME Form freezes when adding a new database connection

I’m trying to add a new database connection (FME Form 2024.2). I haven’t had any problems with this in the past but today the Add Database Connection dialog just freezes when I click Save. I’m able to click the Test… button to test the connection and that works.

I’ve tried various connections to various databases and get the same behaviour - I’m able to test the connection successfully but not able to save it, so it does not appear to be a DB connection issue.

I suspect it’s a file lock / permission issue on the connections file/DB that is being used but I have rebooted the computer and that did not help. I’m trying to save the connection for my own user (not a shared connection).

Has anyone else experienced this and know how to resolve it?

Hello, @nic_ran.

Thanks for posting your question to the community forums. Sorry that this behaviour with FME Form has occurred for you. Thanks for communicating the steps you’ve taken to troubleshoot this issue. It may be file lock / permission issue - but haven’t seen it personally.

A few questions I’d like to ask you as a starting point (and for clarification):

  • On the topic of permissions, has that changed on your machine?
  • Any updates on your machine done before this occurred?
  • Have you tried clearing cache on your system? Did/does it resolve the issue?

Thanks!

Hi @AliAtSafe ,

there weren’t any security or other changes that I’m aware of and, as mentioned, I rebooted the computer so the cache should have been cleared and any file locks released but it didn’t help.

Strangely, the issue seems to have resolved itself and I can no longer reproduce it.

Hi, @nic_ran.

Thanks for answering those questions. That’s good. You could try via Disk Cleanup and/or Storage Sense (if your OS supports it) and see if that resolves it next time it occurs again.

Interesting - that’s good at least. If it does reoccur, let us know if you’d like via submitting a support ticket.

Thanks!
