When writing PDF it would be good if I could choose to write PDF/A version of the files. PDF/A is an ISO standard specialized for the digital preservation of electronic documents and in several cases it's a requirement when delivering PDF-files to a customer.

PDF/E isn't that widely spread yet but I think it's up and coming: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/E

We have a customer (City) who would like to use FME as the integrator to feed different types of documents into archiving system, so PDF/A support would be really useful here. Absolutely supporat this idea.

PDF/A support would be a great improvement. Especially PDF/A-3 version which allows to embed f.ex. CAD-drawings into it.

In our Company we have a new Project "longterm saving data". Therefore it would be great, if FME Support PDF/A or PDF/E Format.

As there is 9 different PDF/A standard it would be a good way to choose which of the standards to write to. As PDF v. 2.0. will be released in 2017 perhaps it's good timing for updating the PDF writing support.

Tip! For validation of PDF/A we use http://verapdf.org/

PDFs are the format of choice for contracted deliverables in the A/E/C industry. They convey crucial info that is relied upon by many trades, businesses and institutions. Support for PDF/A and E would help define and enforce standards so that its data can be manipulated more easily. Anything that helps preserve the original content while being processed would be very useful.
