I suspect a default fill opacity other than 100% would be detrimental to performance, but it would be interesting to hear Safe's take on it.
Actually there wouldn't be a performance hit as the GPU does all the goodness for us anyway.
This is a very interesting idea and I'll ask the team to consider it.
I'm still waiting for an option to set an opacity in the inspector parameters. You could then set your inspectors to 50% as a default
Okay, @mhab, I'm pleased to advise that the latest FME 2017.1 beta has this in it.
From the changelog:
--------------------------
FME 2017.1 b17507 20170612
--------------------------
DI: 2D: Set the default area fill transparency to 30% instead of 100%.
(PR#78038)
As for the inspector transformers -- not ideal, but I did just find that if I set the fill color in an inspector transformer, I can then additionally add the transparency I want to it. As in: 1,0,1,0.3 -- I just typed a ",0.3" after whatever the color was and it works. We can make this nicer but short term it is a workaround @egomm & @mark_1spatial
Wow, this is a fast reaction.
It is so encouraging to be part of the FME community.
Thanks
Michael
Now 2017.1 is released and I find the default setting for transparent filling even more useful than I had in mind. I only thought of multiple overlapping polygons. Now the relative ordering of layers in DI doesn't matter so much anymore as I can always see points etc. through filled areas.
