Add to the scheduling screen the ability to view schedules in a calendar view. It would be nice to be able to format it daily/weekly/work week/monthly. It would also be nice to be able to click on an opening in the calendar to start scheduling a new job.

Merged Ideas:

FME Server Schedule - Ability to identify the schedule(s) that gets executed on by atiul on August 8, 2018

***Note from Migration:***

Original Title was: FME Server Schedule - Ability to identify the schedule(s) that gets executed on a give time range (future date/time range)

It would be great, if FME Server provides an interface that can list out the schedules that get executed during a give time range (future date/time range). This would be helpful to disable the affected schedule(s) during outages (server maintenance activities).

Be able to view rapidly in a calendar all the tasks that we'll be running in the next hours/days/weeks. That way it would be sooooo easier to manage the schedule without asking to myself if the process time we'll be overlapping an other process. I only have one engine, so it's hard to manage all the tasks scheduled right now. Something like Outlook or Google Calendar would be great!

You have the option to do this with Google Calendar API (never been able to make it work)

Or do like me : use the REST API and develop your own script to write an Excel and use Excel Styler to create a personalized calendar

The security at some companies won't allow using Google. Would be much better to have it all inside the FME Server interface.

Strongly agree that being able to see when jobs are scheduled including a representation of the duration from the last run would be very helpful to identify overlaps and gaps where new jobs could be scheduled. Making it interactive for creating new schedules and dragging/dropping to re-arrange, would be icing on the cake!

A calendar view that shows when all jobs have been scheduled to start would be useful. For example, if I have five jobs that start at midnight and five engines, I could easily see in a calendar that I probably wouldn't want to start another job at midnight and should consider having that job run at a different time.

With an FME Server client today and they asked for this. Specifically to be able to see gaps in the weekly schedule where a process could be slotted in, so a way to manage capacity. Also, they asked for some form of colour coding or some way of identifying easily, the status of the schedule from the calendar (active\\inactive) along with an indication of when the last run slot was for that schedule.

We've been doing something similar now when a collegue discovered that FME Server's schedule as well as job logs were accessible via REST API. I quickly created a w/s to read, manipulate and insert data into Oracle tables, from were it can be visualized in much more readable format:

'

Updated hourly, this gives our FME developers far better view on what and when (and how long) is happening on our FME Server. This is version 0.01 wrapped up in few hours .... For example, run times could be presented as bars etc. Furthermore, we would need to lengthen the time job logs are kept on server to have a better view how run times are developing.

Until now, we haven't provided an update on this idea, and, it being the currently most voted for FME Server idea, I wanted to take the time to show you what we have been iterating on... while this isn't available for beta testing in-product just yet, we are still inviting any feedback or questions that you might have!

First off, let me thank our amazing development team for providing us the screenshots and accompanying descriptions. I can't take any credit here!

We’ve introduced a new calendar view to the FME Server Schedules page and there are two main ways to interact with it. In the first screenshot, you will see a new button to toggle to the calendar display... this is also rendered in FME Server 2021 – a sneak peek at the new colour and contrast changes!

https://safe.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/30000000ePES/a/4Q000000NNWw/fabFtMTMClRBBF6BTKR.Tl7hi3RS2YhjZnkZs1ZYj50

Right away you will notice a repeating warning icon and some text (numbers) on each day. The warning icon represents that the number of schedules exceeds the threshold setting you can set (more on this later). So in this example, the threshold is set to 1 and there are no days (visible) without a schedule running. Now what about that number? It's to help identify busy days! In this example, the value '1000' seen on each day would mean that there are 1000 schedules running that day (yikes!)

https://safe.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/30000000ePES/a/4Q000000NNX1/.8OM7W4_P4VV9rE4KlsmH9Le426mnBSWKPO42VbiKJI

This is a good time to pause and let you know that the text, look & feel, and even the functionality, are subject to change. Some of the data and numbers have been mocked up just for this posting. Please don't start buying FMELIZ stocks based on what you see here.

Back to the feature... if you click on any calendar cell, it will open up a list view of the schedules for that day. We really love to run austinDownload.fmw!

https://safe.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/30000000ePES/a/4Q000000NNX6/i1kGcuyFmKfnQTgGEoNBqYgGuXkizsq.8LZZ.4NnT9M

And if you click on the threshold message icon, then you will see a different display which is great for finding a slot where your FME Server Engines may not be so busy! You can click in this detailed view to jump to the Create Schedule page with the start time pre-populated.

https://safe.my.salesforce.com/sfc/p/30000000ePES/a/4Q000000NNXB/F4VPXlEM.3Kr6GkLw4rWzKLtC0tvFxs8IRbA3qC_Nfw

There is more to come and for the next iteration we are investigating using a heat map view to show what times are the most busy throughout the week. And this is where that 'Interval' setting come into play. In this example, the interval is set to 15 minutes, to divide the calendar times into 15 minutes sections, and it is displaying everything between 1AM and 5AM. Again, this will be used to display busy and not-so-busy timeframes.

This is all a work-in-progress, but we wanted to give you an opportunity to see some of that progress so far, and open it up for comments or questions. If you would like, please reach out to me directly via email at rylan.maschak@safe.com – happy to chat in more detail!

Please note that this feature is not available in FME Server 2021.0—we are still working on it and will update the FME community here when it is available.

@simeon_h  I'm sorry we have not communicated more clearly about our progress.

We recently changed the status of this idea to Not Planned to reflect our decision to shelve further work on this feature. We encountered some challenges and decided to pull back development on this feature to focus efforts on higher-impact work.

We recognize that our product planning decisions are not always reflected on related ideas in a timely manner—this is something we are hoping to improve.
